Streaker: More In-Depth

 putting on the ritz.

Many of you already know my canine sidekick Streaker.  You have commented on many of her images, posted one at a time over the past several months.  I figured it was about time some of you got to know her a little more intimate.

STREAKER RICTAMETER

Streaker

A companion

Faithful, Loyal and True

Just a canine, but so much more

She's not my whole life, she makes my life whole

Wags her tail instead of her tongue

Loves everyone she meets

My golden pup

Streaker

                                                                                                                   having a laugh.

Streaker is such a smart dog I would like to be able to brag and say I trained her.  But that's not the case.  I may have pointed something out to her one time but she figured out what to do, or what I wanted her to do, on her own.  Her only formal training was some river rescue stuff, which was really cool.  I just have to admit she's a natural in all that she does.

She has played on the beaches of South Carolina.  She has done downtown urban hikes in Raleigh, Atlanta, Charlotte, Houston, New Orleans and San Antonio.  She has climbed mountains in Tennessee, North Carolina, and Virginia.  She has wandered the southwest desert.  She has swam in the Mississippi, Cape Fear, Colorado and Guadalupe Rivers.  She has been through two floods, two hurricanes, an ice storm and one really intense tornado.  She has been flying, camping, rock-climbing, mountain biking, canoeing and kayaking.  Right now, she's looking up at me with her grand 'I'm bored' expression.

She has met Max Lucado, Rusty Wallace, Dale Earnhardt (Sr) and Larry Gatlin.

I tell you what.  Since a picture tells a thousand words, I'll let a few of her photographs take over and finish this little tale.  She is an ego grabber, so if you have a comment in your head - she wants to see it here.  LOL.

She looks and sounds like a great dog! I am just hoping that my 15 week old pit bull pup will grow up to be a great companion and working dog. He already has his back pack but still has to grow into it. He is "in training" and has learned a few commands so far. I took him shopping in 2 pet stores today and he had a great time. Of course, the check out people gave him treats.

Toni, she runs behind in that event. In the canoe she sits up front. kayak, in the hole. When we fly she looks out the window. Rock climbing she goes up until it gets straight vertical then waits on a ledge if I choose to go a little higher. Usually, I'll just sit on the ledge with her.

I loved this pictorial. I feel like I know her already. We train dogs for friends and friends of friends. Dogs have that "what can I do for you" attitude. Cats, on the other hand, have the "What can you do for ME" attitude. LOL I like most animals, but dogs are my favorite. Thanks for the post. Streaker, you get 10 stars girl!! Streaker is an obviously wonderful dog. She looks well groomed and cared for in all your shots, so kudos to you as a human companion, as well.

Little compliment for the photographer: as usual, there are many fine shots here, but the "explorer dog" one, with the cliffs in the background and the shadow of the cloud right behind Streaker is one fine photograph, my friend. Have you ever entered it in any kind of contest? It's a winner.

You've got one cool companion, my friend. I miss our dogs. We live in rented housing now, and had to get rid of our pets! So sad! They weren't all that companionable, though, unless you call getting mowed down by a Husky/Malamute companionship!

I love the variety of photos you put in this collage. Very colorful and telling. Streaker means a lot to you!

Thanks Rory, I like that photo too but my fav is the other desert one. We just get back to where we can see the highway far below and she looks over her shoulder and laughs because I'm dragging my butt - severely dragging my butt. I'm not 25 anymore.

Hi Robert,
Lovely pictures.
My "Fancy" the collie is 2 now and we've just begun to train her. When she does something other than catch a Frisbee and steal my seat in the car, Ill snap some pictures and send them on to you.
I liked the photo of Streaker with the horses in the circular shot. Very classy.
And I see there is no lack of rails in your part of the country. That has a private meaning folks, but one of these days you may get the jist of it all. Will it be a suprise!
That means a hat for Streaker, too my son.
I have enjoyed the tour.

Oh, did I forget to mention there was a heated workshop, food, water and a companion for when she slept 'outside'? But she definitely had no TV or music, so it was indeed a hardship on her. LOL

Streaker is beautiful and such a smart doggie! She is so cool. I love the photos, especially the laughing one. You need to take her to meet Dean Koontz. He loves dogs, especially golden retrievers.
Read "Watchers" with Streaker. It is scary in some parts, so you may want to edit.

Jan S. I buy and read Koontz every year. I have bought all of his books for my brother Ted, some I read before he gets them some after.

Alta: This furry one didn't pick me, I think God had a hand in it. I was at my brother's the night his black lab went into labor. I've never seen puppies born before so i stayed. I told my brother I was watching for the first one out and that would be mine. Two minutes later Streaker plopped out onto the floor. Five more followed, all females, but I knew which one was mine.

There is nothing on earth - nothing - better than puppy breath to wake you in the mornings and a warm furry body to lay beside you when you're ill. And all those little things in between - that unconditional love - it's the greatest gift there is.

I think Streaker is in love with the camera, either that or you pick her poses. I'm betting she poses for you with no coaxing. I've had three friends like Streaker, Irv, Irv Jr., and Irv III, they were all black, large mixed breeds. I can't make myself get an Irv IV. Losing a canine friend is awful. You've been blessed with Streaker.

Cheryl: If I picked her poses, if I could control an animal insuch a way; I would be working with the animals in Hollywood. Streaker is a natural. I do think however that she equates THE CAMERA with LET'S GO FOR A WALK and that is her relationship to the camera.

Of course "A Walk" to her usually signifies a complete day's outing in the backcountry. The usual dog walk (15 minutes around the neighborhood to relieve oneself), she usually takes on her own. I'll leave the door open and if she's not back in 10 minutes, I'll holler for her. 19 out of 20 times she's back in 8.

I'll leave the door open and if she's not back in 10 minutes, I'll holler for her. 19 out of 20 times she's back in 8.

Just read that. My dog was the victim of an attempted kidnap (we're in our 4th year of court over that ). I don't let my dogs out of my sight. It only takes one wacko and they're gone.

Actually, the only pic I have of her with a NASCAR legend is on my buddy's wall. Got a photo of her and Rusty outside his restaurant in M.I., SC. But I do have a few of Dale taken from his pits in Charlotte when I got to play honorary pit crew for the Charlotte race one year. Be happy to send you a couple of these. I lost a lot of interest in NASCAR after Dale was killed at Daytona.

I actually thought at the end of that article you were going to tell us you were blind. I kept waiting and it never came. Yaaaaa :)
It has to be wonderful to have that kind of companionship with a dog. I haven't experiences it ... but know other that have the joy. Thanks Robert.
