Not being a techie or gadget person, I haven't been paying attention to the controversy about AT&T, the NSA and all that implies. I know that with the Patriot Act we had made our first step into the pages of "1984" and Big Brother, but had no idea of the magnitude of it.
This morning I saw a "You Tube" interview of Joel Johnson from the website "Gadget" on "The Hugh Thompson Show". "The Hugh Thompson Show" is a production of AT&T, shown on their cable service. Johnson had been scheduled to talk about the site and the latest technological wizardry. Instead he started talking about AT&T's latest announcement about Internet Filtering.
Here is the address for the video: http://gadgets.boingboing.net/2008/01/21/talking-about-atts-i.html. Make sure you read the whole article to see what happens when the crew interrupts the segment.
Still like your AT&T services, their special offers and package deals? I don't.

Hug back - important stuff Joel - thanks for the coup!
Anywho....it's not like we haven't been warned. The powers that be now are able to come in your home without a warrant to get a copy of your hard drive it they have the need or want to, and no...you don't even have to be home for them to come in.
Smells like Nazi Germany to me!
You have Bell Canada...wholly owned by AT&T. Also, AT&T owns the backbone that runs through N. America and to Europe and Asia. Canadian ISPs all tap into the AT&T backbone.
The writing has been on the wall since 2004 that somebody would do this. Comcast was castigated a few months ago for prohibiting traffic from NARAL on their network. I heard a local (somewhat) newscast last week that an ISP in Phoenix is going to (try) to begin tiered service and charge by bandwidth used. All of this is in violation of network neutrality.
More people need to get a copy of Phil Zimmerman's PGP (encryption software) to remain safe.
now, I think you should get him to join Earth Hour too :)
Thanks all.
him :)
I didn't know that you posted this. It came up on Ken K.'s article from Dec. 17, on which I just now commented.
But you see (and I must laugh, I really do). But you see, Sharon . . .but you see . . .how you do I scan my old badge and show you that we were once civil defense employees . . .because, but you seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Hell, let me cut to the chase. I'm talking to YOU . . .
I'm stopping. That's it. Bye.
