Is It Just Me?

I have recently come to the conclusion that I might have an issue with scents. Some people might think I am joking when I say this, but I am really serious. I have to smell the scent of everything that I buy, from dish soap, to shampoo and everything in between). I can't pass a isle in Walmart with arifreshners or laundry dtergents in it, or a scented candle dispaly without spending a good amount of time smelling the different scents of the products. I know that is strange, but I just can't help it. When my mother in law asked me what I wanted for Christmas, I said air freshners. For instance when I buy shampoo ( the 98 cent kind) I have to smell it and like the scent before I buy it. I know that noone cares about this, but I just wnated to know if anyone esle thought that this was weird.

Odd but not weird and maybe it's a pasing thing? There was a guy on the radio here a couple months back sharing about how he thought he smelled like BO for a month...he didn't, and checked with people regularly but for a month would swear that he could smell BO. Now THATS weird!

They also say that scent is the number one sense for memory retrieval. Honest to God I took my brother to a friend's house today, we walked in and the first think he said was "This place smells like our grandparents house!" - There was an element of that.

Scents are odd. You are not!

This doesn't really make a whole lot of "scents" to me, although I know other women who do the same thing. Perhaps you'd developing a bit of OCD?

Possibilities - you are very early in pregnancy and not aware yet (pregnancy enhances sense of smell)

or you could be a chemically sensitive person. I am chemically sensitive, and one of the worst things for me are strong fragrances. Reactions run from just a headache to very strong nausea.

At least I know that it's not to weird. It could be a bit of OCD considering I have that already (except for me it's checking that the stove is turned off, even if I haven't used it in a week). And Lisa I know it's not the early stages of pregnancy because I had my tubes tied three years ago, but I had never thought of chemical sensitivity.

I haven't known one that wasn't fragrance conscious. Sometimes I think that to get the beauty of a flower they have to smell it.
I just look at it. That's enough for me.

I don't think that you are weird at all. I do it with the things that aren't really supposed to have a scent, for that I feel weird! I keep opening the door of the new piece of furniture that we got, because I love how it smells!

I smell shampoo before I buy it and stuff like that. I like to smell candles in displays, but that's about it.

it's not wierd... i smell all the scents too.... it has to be just right

It's naturally one of the five senses that we depend upon to master our daily lives. If you stop and think about it, your other senses probably get equal recognition in the course of a day -- sight, sound, touch, taste............. smell. Makes sense.

Enjoy your sense of smell.. mine went years ago it comes back occasionally for brief periods of time and then I find all smells overwelming

Doesn't sound strange to me. I am a full-time Rv'er living in a motor home and I can't buy anything with an overwhelming scent. So smell away LOL

ps thanks for commenting on my last post about advertising, I fixed the problem and have posted a new article here on how I fixed the advertising problem. All can now advertise and not get smacked for it. :-)

I don't think it's weird at all. Why would you want to use any product whose scent you did not like? I happen to do the same thing. That's why companies offer products in varied aromas, because people have different preferences. Maybe some of us are just more sensitive to scents than others, so they matter more, but I see nothing odd about that or about smelling things before you decide whether to buy them or not.

As a person who not only loves fragrance but also spends too much money on it, I'm fully understanding of your issue. Smell is a very important scent and I like my body, clothes, and home to smell nice. The OCD thing could be kicking in too but as long as it's not causing problems, enjoy yourself.

Weird...no way. Who wants to smell offensive odors or bitter pinches in their nostrils? I notice that my sense of smell is keener after a shower. Like being out in fresh air then walking into a dusty stuffy room.

I just think that you favor your olfactory senses. I am very tactile and like to feel everything. Although I do like to test the fragrances of products I buy because I have allergies and don't want to buy anything that will set them off.
