It Matters Not...

Great poem, Emmett. Even when truth is revealed, why do so many choose to not believe it?

and why do people just visit and give me a low rating...
so 2x 10's and a 1... 7 average...

Oh I know why they do that... if they left rude comments I could remove them so they use the points as a away to attack...

I don't get it Emmett. I've had the same thing happen to me today.

Emmett, I have had the same thing done to me too. Its some nasty person, who is bitter and probably doesnt like themselves.

I found if you don't make a big deal of the DB1ers then they will eventually go away....but then again when religion is ever brought up people have their opinions & they may not want to say anything so they rate a 1. I don't think that points matter with the ratings. At least that is what I heard. ;o) Great poem btw! I love the gospel too & it has really helped me in my life! Glad I know you on here & Connie too...and the other people who believe what I believe ;o)!

I get one low rating per post. I've come to think of it as a badge of honor.

Emmet, the only purpose that can be served by rating less than 10 is to keep a post from being on the "Highest Rated" Listing. (There may be a points penalty, but I doubt that) By keeping an article from the "Highest Rated" list there is NOTHING accomplished. There are two other lists, "Most Read" and "Most Discussed." The most damaging thing about Gather is those two lists. Games are usually the top 25, or the vast majority of the top 25, on both lists. If you are here for the points, publish games.

Those of us who are interested in serious conversation have to do a bit of work, like finding you...because you are thought provoking. It is why I love to get Mass Mail From you. It saves me the trouble of seeking what you have written.

Now, the thoughts provoked here. You use the expression "Revealed Truth." The implication of that expression is that the "truth" just dropped down out of heaven and bopped some poor prophet on the bean. That is not the way real life works. Even the Holy Bible is the result of centuries of observation and research. Truth, Moral, Ethical or Scientific is NOT REVEALED. It is discovered. Civil Law is made, and if it works as intended, it is kept, if it does not it is discarded. That is how the Commandments came to be. It is how axioms come to be, it is how the laws of plane geometry come to be. Nothing is GIVEN FREE...someone worked hard to get it. The greatest act of generosity ever known was the writing down of the laws of the bible, and demonstrating their validity with the Stories and Parables of the Book.

Every holy text is a civilizing set of social and civil laws. They have nothing to do with any God..they have to do with people living in communities that work communally to provide for the people of the community. They are in fact Constitutions, and have no supernatural source.

While I am too tired for a deep discusion, I will argue with one phrase you used Karl ; "They have nothing to do with any God" while I agree the crafting does relate to the societal structure, I know that God did and does inspire the crafters of such unifying documents. ANd the Truth I am referring to is facts, tangible real and unchanging... truths do not change becouse we do not know they exist... one such truth, is yes a tree makes a noise even if no person is there to hear it... and or yes if a man says something with no woman around to contradict him, yes he is still wrong.... lol

Yes Emmett, you have a wonderful poem and it is only God's assessment that counts. I pay no attention to the point thingy, I am here to do what I feel the Lord has put before me, have fun and leave the rest up to Him.

I had one day last week where everything I wrote was getting those DB1s, then another day when there was a commenter who also gave 1s. Of the two, I preferred the one who wanted discussion over the one who just hit and ran.

I am a recent LDS convert, and I think I know why people don't believe the revealed Truth. I think it is because the way in which it was revealed is not very believable to a lot of people. They lack the faith and guidance they get from prayer and the power of from the Holy Ghost. Even I'm having doubts.
