I teach a lot of children's poetry at Utah State University, and so I've come to write a few things
myself. I hope you enjoy it!
The Sidewinder's Stride
I am quite stupified by the sidewinder's stride.
His tracks in the sand leave us all mystified.
They lurch to the left, then neurotically glide--
They curve like the come and the go of the tide!
He fights to go forward, but swerves to the side,
Which is forward to him . . . so just who's to decide?

I really liked the poem. I pictured the blacksnake that lives in my basement, paying his room and board by keeping the field mice out of my home.
Thank you!
