I love the poem, but I admit to being poetry-challenged. Despite my degree in English I cannot recall 'ricameter.'

Sorry...I spelt it wrong; ( Rictameter is an unrhymed poetry form consisting of nine lines and 50 syllables constructed as: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 syllables. The first and last line must be the same word.

Kate, I love the tempo of your rictameter, Nevermind. The birds of prey hovering above the poem in your fine photo, add to the ambience of premonition and resolution to one's fate. Keep up the good work.

It falls to me as moderator (resident didact) to point out that the first and last line aren't the same--which is a hallmark of the form. Please don't let that discourage you; as you can see, it is posted with pride, in the group. Since all the other criteria of rictameter are in place, you might want to rectify those lines. On the other hand, this is a fine lyrical poem you might want to leave as is. Either way, I'm a fan.

Hi Jim, This was my first attempt at rictameter, and I enjoyed the structure. I'll make sure the next one has the same first and last line. I'm learning! Thank you for sharing this wonderful, fun way to write poetry. I'm a fan!

We created this form of poetry to describe the process of life growing through experience and returning to death. The first and last words are the same because birth and death are the same point of existence. The poem is cyclical as a reflection of life. This poem and it's theme were spot on, with the slight exception of the syntax error. Great Job!
