"We shall by morning
Inherit the earth.
Our foot's in the door"
from " Mushrooms"
by Sylvia Plath
Waking up
submerged in water
this is where i started
this is where i am now
when the storms outside rage
the windows above the bath shake
with the force of the gale
but they do not touch me
here
in my underwater world
where i am lying
safe sleeping awaiting
the time when it is right
to come out
a personal evolution
i am an egg
that is not quite that frog
that will come out soon
for the moment i am
here
under the water
hearing nothing
feeling nothing
but the enveloping protection
of water
keeping all sounds, visions, touch
away
growing wrinkled washerwoman hands
and deaf ears
to all that goes on outside
of this one white
bath tub
here.
