Five anxious women stood in line at the theatre ticket booth the weekend before Christmas. Laughing and giggling with anticipation Sandi said, "Spose we'll get to see Gerard's butt again?" "Well, I hope so otherwise it will be a wasted $8.50!" said Christine. Loud guffaws!
Tickets purchased, we hurried to the concession stand and picked up the usual #1 (large popcorn and coke) before making our way down to theatre number seven.
Before opening the theatre door and stepping into the darkness I whispered "Girls, did you remember your drool cups?" More laughter!
All humor aside, P.S. I Love You, starring Gerard Butler, Hillary Swank, Harry Connick Jr and Jeffrey Dean Morgan struck an emotional chord with me. Having lost a husband of my own, the movies plot about a young widow whose late husband left a series of ten letters for her to read after his death really hit home. Each letter contained a task for her to do, either by herself or with friends and was designed to help her get over her grief and get on with her life. The closing sentence in each letter contained the movies title, "P.S. I Love You.
Partially filmed in Ireland, the scenery was breathtaking as well as the sexy, natural accent of Gerard Butler and the well rehearsed accent conjured up by Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Harry Connick Jr's role of an inept American love interest never did quite fit as I kept asking myself, "Why in the world would Holly, played by Swank, ever be interested in such a goofball dunderhead?", so there was no surprise when their exploratory kiss in the end turned out to be flat. Hillary Swank's portrayal of Holly was done well, considering she's still Hillary Swank and not one of my favorites.
There were a couple of heart touching scenes; one in which Holly is lying in bed alone after his death and she's imagining Gerry's arms around her. This scene drew an ache I'd long forgotten and another being the sweet smile on William's face near the end of the movie which signaled a new beginning for Holly. On a personal level I've experienced both.
All in all I LOVED everything about this movie. I'm not sure why, maybe because of the emotional connection, who knows? But after asking the four other women their thoughts they all agreed it was one of the greatest "chick flicks" they'd seen this year. Ladies, go see it, take your better half too, as it may make him more appreciative of the love sitting next to him in the theatre.
P.S. Did we get to see Gerard's butt? No. But, you Grey's Anatomy fans will be happy to know Jeffrey Dean Morgan flashes his! Yowsa!

Ladies, be sure to bring your drool cups and Kleenexes to this movie! The price of the movie ticket is well spent!:)
I have got to see this.
My friends and I always yell Denny whenever we see him in any other movie or show. His butt added quite a few bonus points for the movie :)
