Where's My Government Protection, Dude??

Last night, one of my eleven o'clock news programs told me how deadly substances had been found at a man's house in a town less than thirty miles from where I live.

Part of the video footage, from when the house was serached and emptied last summer, panned the suspect's back yard, where, of all things, a six foot homemade rocket was seen stacked in the shed.

Among the substances officials found in the home, one is suspected to be explosive, and another suspected of being ricin; a poisonous protein used as a biochemical reagent.

Ricin is WMD level stuff.

This the part where you would expect some federally mandated task force to instntly rush to the scene and protect the national well being.

Well, they haven't.

The substances have apparently sat for five months in the basement of a local law enforcment staion; trapped in a quagmire as the contracted private labs, who would normally pick-up, secure and test such substances, are balking over technicalities over who is responsible for what.

The television reporting I saw, said that HAZMAT officials were expected on the scene tomorrow.


But I'm already feeling ill.
