LL D' Merle published an article yesterday featuring a link to a game for charity called Free Rice. The game, in and of itself, is fun as well as philanthropic. Games are always more fun if you are playing with someone though so, I thought, in an effort to promote this great cause to provide grain for the hungry, it might be fun to have a Gather competition. The nicest user feature of this site is that it requires no sign in. You can just click the link and begin to play immediately.
Â
Object of the game: The Gather member with the highest vocabulary score and the most number of grains of rice donated in the least amount of time wins. (I have put the time factor in because this will mean that people will be more unlikely to take the time to cheat to look up the words.)
The rules of the game for the Gather competition are as follows:
1. You must first announce in a comment that you are starting to play a round. This will log in your start time.
2. Whenever you decide you would like to end the round, copy and paste the entire last answer and your vocabulary score and best level in the comment space with the number of grains of rice you have donated. ( vocabulary scores and grains of rice are commensurate, so don't change numbers, because I can tell if you've cheated, and cheaters will be eliminated.)
3. You can play as many rounds as you would like by coming back and doing steps one and two.
4. The Gather member who has the highest vocabulary score  with most grains of rice donated in any given round in the least amount of time by 11PM on Sunday night wins the competition.
Â
Prize: Winner gets 50 original comments, no fewer than 5 words each, on articles, images, or video from me over the next week.
The way this is done is shown below in my first two comments. My entries will not count. They will only serve as examples.
Don't forget to announce your start time wih a comment!

Hi Lori. You're in my thoughts during this superlatively stressful time. Wishing you peace.
Ruthie, you didn't publish your score, but since you were good enough to participate, I will award you 5 comments.
Shannon, yes, I believe your score! Very good! That was a lot of rice, so you get 5 comments too. Gof knows, you get a lot more than that over a week's time from me.
Katie, thanks for stopping.
Cheryl wins since she followed the instructions and had no competition. 50 comments to Cheryl over the next week!
