I have to admit, I was a little sceptical when I first read about this.I consider myself to be fairly versed in Homeopathic remedies but I am just learning about Ayurvedic medicine. Ayurvedic medicine is an ancient Eastern Indian system of natural health care. It's origins date back to 6,000 years ago, but is now popping back up in trendy spas and Holistic circles.
I came across this method from Kris Car's ' Crazy Cancer' site as a method for dextoxing the system, although Oil Pulling is best noted for healing teeth and gums. This was of big interest to me because oral health is greatly compromised during chemotherapy treatments and mine wasn't the best to start out with. I will share with you my experience and then you can decide if Oil Pulling is for you.
Dr Karach the author of Oil Pulling said: "The oil therapy heals tooth pain totally. Obvious results are re-fixing of loose teeth, stops bleeding gums and whitening of the teeth.
So, how do you do an Oil Pull?
"In the morning before breakfast on an empty stomach you take one tablespoon in the mouth but do not swallow it. Move Oil Slowly in the mouth as rinsing or swishing and Dr Karach puts it as ' sip, suck and pull through the teeth' for fifteen to twenty minutes. This process makes oil thoroughly mixed with saliva. Swishing activates the enzymes and the enzymes draw toxins out of the blood. The oil must not be swallowed, for it has become toxic. As the process continues, the oil gets thinner and white. If the oil is still yellow, it has not been pulled long enough."
Now, before I started chemotherapy, I had some dental work done that never seemed to fully recover. The whole right side of my mouth was so sensitive I couldn't even chew on that side. I also have periodontal gum disease. Once I started chemo, there was always a terrible taste in my mouth. My gums bled and it felt like there was a constant film in my mouth. When I read about the Oil Pulling, I thought it was totally disgusting- but since I had some sesame oil on hand I thought I would give it a try. (It is recommended that either cold pressed sesame or sunflower oil is used) I was so surprised with the results, I've been Oil Pulling every morning with great results. The first time I didn't notice a difference other than my mouth felt cleaner ( weird since it is an oil ) but I continued and now I can honestly say my teeth aren't nearly as sensitive, my gums stopped bleeding and oddly enough, my teeth are brighter! I can even chew on my right side.
I can't attest that Oil Pulling works for any other health problems, but it sure has worked wonders for my mouth!
