Which toys and games should be in the average household's game cabinet? Is a deck of cards and a Hoyle's book of rules enough for fun? Are video games necessary? Should toys like Frisbees and marshmallow guns be included for sheer frivolity?

For years, I knew nothing of it, but it is a big hit with my wife's family. I have a reputation for diving over the table in pursuit of an errant spoon.
A couple of favorites were Pass the Bomb and Apples to Apples. My son and I created some great memories playing chess over the years, too.
And every family should learn Improv Games to play such as "Minister's Cat" and "Name 7 Things" to help with memory and vocabulary.
Good call on the puzzle Richard... and thanks for bringing up Chess. Diana echoes that point. I think people forget about its power.
Nice suggestion Linda - anything to get people movin' around here!
Diana, maybe this is the year you get some of those small squirt guns for the kids now that they're probably at the age they think they're too old for them. Just sayin' it has worked for me ;-)
You brought up a good point Frick - some games are verbal play and don't require anything more than an imagination and wit.
Well, and maybe a word game like Balderdash.
And a chess set, for sure.
