Social Network Marketing: Does it work?

So this is a little bit of an experiment in Social Network Marketing. Istarted a blog on Gather... mainly for the fun of it. But I got tothinking...

Facebook has been in the news a lot lately becauseof the potential of tapping into Social Networks for Marketingpurposes. I have a ton of friends here on Facebook, so I though, hmm...let's put this to the test. Let's market my little blog on Gather, andinvite all my friends to join. If they do, I get points, they getpoints, and maybe this Gather Fan Club will run away with viral passionand success.

Then again, maybe no one will bother to sign up. We shall see.

Icurrently have 213 Gather Points. If people use the link from thisgroup to sign up, that should go up considerably. I will keep youposted on my progress, and whether the whole Gather points thing isjust hype.

Points aside, I have really enjoyed playing withGather. I seem to get responses immediately after posting images andarticles... which is very cool.

One downside I have experienced with Gather is that there seems to be a lot of people publishing fluff content, especially in comments. I am witholding judgement for right now on whether Gather is just a small time spammers paradise, or if it is a viable rewards based content publishing and sharing platform.
