To Alex, On Eighth Grade Graduation DayJune 16, 2005 Burn bright, my only light. I wait ahead on this road that you travel; The trees, with gargantuan arms, block the sky,Dark and thick. The road winds. A tortuous maze, with blind turns. Can you see me up ahead? I would paint you a map If I thought that you'd follow,But I know that each footfall Must be your own.Crunching your own printsInto this forest floor. I am afraid, I want to call out.Your getting lost- my deepest fear. Can I cut a hole in the sky To light your way?The trees whisper no. So I will stand by the roadI will not run and grab your hand.I will wait to see youTrudging through. I must trust in your light. Burn bright, my only light.
Love You, Mom
