They got me again!

Once again, bureaucracy rears its ugly head in my life.

I was filling out yet another application for grad school (keep having visions of not getting accepted anywhere - that would SUCK) - and loaded up my college website thingamajig to check what my official average was and actually looked at my transcript and OMG it wasn't RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!

It never USED to say Probation under Academic Status. Honest!!!!!!!!!

I have NEVER been on Academic Probation in my life! OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It said

Academic Status:  Probation

Additional Info: Dean's List

EXCUSE ME? WHO gets both of those things together?  You know who? F*K UPS that get in trouble for things like hacking computer systems, or other behaviour problems. NOT ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How many transcripts like that have they sent out? WAY TOO FLIPPIN' MANY, THAT'S HOW MANY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I called the college - first person I talked to put me on hold to go look into it and never came back.

Called back again - second person said she would go look in to it and call me back. 

When she did call me back, she assured me that it had been fixed.

How? The transcripts have already been sent out all over the flippin' place!!!!!!!!!

Hell, I already have a rejection from one university - the creative writing program at UBC doesn't want me.....  well DUH...WHO WANTS A F*K UP?

ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's too late to do anything about that one now... but they are resending all of the others at no charge but for CRYING OUT LOUD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not THEIR fault of course - it was a problem that happened back when they switched computer systems a couple of years ago

Honestly - I am so tired of computer systems being blamed for all of the STOOPID crap that conspires to MESS ME UP! I am a computer programmer. Not a great one...but I did get really good marks and was NEVER ON PROBATION!!!!!!!!!!! but haven't done much since .... (those that can, do; those that can't, teach) .... but I know enough about how computers work to know that it is NOT THE COMPUTERS' FAULT.  It is ALWAYS someone's fault. People, not computers!

More fodder for my President's Essay's Competition essay.... I have decided to write on the TECHNOLOGY question .... but geez, I SO could do without this sort of CRAP!

Probation! ME! ARGH!

I actually was on probation the first time around...at 18. I would have been crazy if anyone had put that on my transcript the second time around when I had almost perfect grades. I would call the first grad school, and tell them what happened.

Someday, I will have the time and the will to explain why I don't have my Bachelor's degree. I have more than 120 credits completed with adequate grades, but no degree..

I know how much you might want to kill someone but if they resend all of the transscripts, you might also acquire a verification of the correction from them and then send a letter of your own with a copy of the correction so there is backup for your point. Be proactive - if they still don't want you, you probably don't want to be there anyway. Computers are only as good as the people who use them and know how to adjust to changes.

I would, Sue...but had already decided - before I even heard from them - that I wasn't going to GO there unless it was the only offer I got..doesn't seem worth it at this point... and besides, I don't KNOW that that contributed to my rejection... maybe they just didn't like my letter or my portfolio

flit, I cannot believe all the things that have gone wrong for you. Guess you will have to send an addendum out to all the colleges that think you are on probation. What a pain!

Theres an old saying about G.I.G.O. Garbage in garbage out..computers dont put that stuff in there automatically..somebody is responsible for the screw up! I would demand a corrected version be sent out to all your contacts with an apology from them.

My first thought was that the university should send out letters to the universities your applied to stating the error, but maybe too much to ask for?

they said they would include a letter with any that they are resending... but I didn't ask them to go all the way back... was focusing on the ones that haven't rejected me yet!

I'd go in and MAKE them write a letter attached to the transcript stating that there was an error made...and resend it to the one that rejected you also.

I don't think it's asking to much for them to send a letter of explanation with the transcripts. It's not like they would have to type them up separately.

LOL that is such a not Canadian concept, Sue. We don't sue people...and anyway ... not like I've really experienced damages... no way of knowing if it had an impact on the UBC decision - and the others are all getting the corrected version, and, where needed, an explanation.
I'm sorry, Flit. I thought you were American! A good American attorney would find a way to sue for the damages of application fees and defamation of character, at least.

Oh Flit! this is realy messed up, but you'll have to try to do some damage control and make sure that the correct transcripts are resent with an explanation from the college. I'm a Capricorn too by the way! Maybe try a sage stick and burn off some bad karma or go into a postive thought pattern about the entire issue, it doesn't matter just do something positive.

Oh Lord Flit. If this weren't such a hardship on the scholarship level it would be laughable. What if you'd never checked out your transcripts? I think they should include, with the transcript, a letter of explanation to each university!

I'm with the camp that says demand a letter and corrected transcript. You did not deserve this. Man. What else can go wrong? No. Forget that. Don't think that way. I won't think that way. I'm thnking instead all the things that can go right.

However, firstly that sucks, and sadly I can't really offer much in the way of suggestions, not a college man for another while.

Is there anyway you can send out the revised transcripts? A second chance sort of dealy?

Flit, computers have messed with a lot of us in our lives in one way or another, and I sure love that you put your horoscope up, I can't go to bed without reading mine either, when is your birthday, must be soon or is passed as Capricorn was my daughter's sign, I hope they all send out apology letters for you, you should insist on that, especially if the one that rejected you was one you really wanted to get into. LOL good point, Christine.... although since I teach grownups (well, supposedly, anyway) ...I am sure the throwing up thing is less an issue...and related to alcohol consumption rather than viruses for the most part.

Flit, have them resend it anyway to the place you do not want to attend, just as a safety measure. If at some point you decide you want or need something from them it would be good to have in the file corrected.

My daughter was being considered for a Track & Field schloarship at the university where my wife and I graduated. My daughter holds school records in the mile and half mile at her high school. My wife told her if she went to EMU that we would not give her a dime. The administrative problems we had with that university are not forgotten. My daughter went to Wayne State. We told our son the same thing. He is going to Wayne State. I told friends in Japan about the problems we've had and I've not heard of one going to EMU.
