After a long week of job training, I decided to head to the Atlanta, Georgia area this past weekend to relax a bit and attend Church. The couple who live next door to my Son and his family aquired a Donkey that goes by the name Roy Lee. Roy used to be part of a petting zoo and children would ride on him. Roy is now retired at the age of 11/2 and spends his day's in a pasture behind the house.
Roy answers to his name when called. I had never seen a Donkey RUN before, but you call out "Donkey" and he run's towards you, making that Donkey noise EEEEEEAAAAA over and over again. No one else is as infactuated as I am with Roy. I've never had a Donkey living in my yard, so it's kind of neat watching him.
I had been toying with the idea of adopting a puppy for awhile, so I did yesterday! He's black and white and about 6 weeks old. I named him Captain Joe. Joe for short. We are working on walking with a leash and pottying outside. Any advice will be appreciated in these area's. It's been a long time since I've trained a puppy.
Gather friends, have a wonderful day!!

I am sure Captain Joe will soon settle down plenty of love and a routine try not start bad habits, easier said than done.
What worked for me with puppies and my goat was setting a timer and taking them out every time the timer went off. I would grab the leash, go out and tell them to be a good boy or girl and wait until they went to go back in. I think it was every two hours, but bladders are different for everyone. It was a royal pain because we had a snow storm, but it worked quickly for the them and got them into a routine. My goat was so good that all I had to say was, "Be a good girl" and she would go right where she was. All three would wake me up when they needed to go in the morning.
It depends on your schedule too. My parents have their dog trained to only do his business twice a day when they take him on walks. That would drive me nuts to have to actually go walk a dog twice a day, but it works for them and they get some exercise:)
I can't wait to see pictures of Joe!
My wife prefers her horse to me. Perhaps that explains my confusion. :-)
Congratulations on the puppy...good luck with the potty training.
The biggest mistake I made in training puppies was to use puppy pads. Certainly, they protect the immediate area where they are placed, but they confuse the little pup. He gets used to going inside in his "spot". It is better to take them outside every 30 minutes of so, let them learn what it feels like to do their business outside only. It takes only a short while for them to learn this procedure and get used to it. Maybe a little longer for you since Joe is a mere six weeks. Good luck.
Please post pictures of Roy and Captain Joe.
