(republished for poetry groups)
I'm not a go-getter, appointment setter, fortune 500,
tennis shoes in the drawer, scratch for more.
I don't get IRA, 401K, bonus in my pay, sick days,
vacation play.
What I am is
the boo-boo kisser, to-do lister, coupon tight-fister,
make love to my mister.
So don't judge
because
I keep it going, and you're knowing, the seeds I'm sowing
are growing
and flowing
to become
my ambitions:
mathmaticians, politicians, leaders of nations,
governing space stations.
Each step a stride, wide, on my side, developing my pride
The ones to run this world and more-
crawling on my floor, leaving through my door
came from my core.
So remember-
without my career, here
it'd all be gone.
So I'll nurture along, strong
knowing you're wrong
to put me down.
