Johnny Depp secretly visited Great Ormond Street Hospital yesterday to donate £1 million of his own money to thank staff for saving his daughter's life.

 

He arrived unexpectedly at the London children's hospital where eight-year-old Lily-Rose was treated last year when her kidneys failed.

What an amazing thing to do, not only the money but to spend hours with the kids there dressed as Capt Sparrow as well. I have always respected how he keeps his family life out of the media storm.

Late in November or early December (I can't remember which!) - he visited Great Ormond Street, changed into his Capn Sparrow costume and read bed-time stories to some of the children. He spent hours there and although I didn't know who he was at the time, he impressed me with his kindness and sense of humour.
