As I work with my son on his Ancient Egypt school project, I am amazed at how much I already know about this amazing civilization.  So much of their cultural is known to us and even copied in our architecture and art.How much do you know about Ancient Egypt? Name one thing per post. I'll start with:  Papyrus- reed used to make an early form of paper

Bubonic plague wouldn't have been the first to come to mind, but it works. I have seen a mumified dog and cat at the natural history museum at McGill in Montreal.

there is some work going on that the egyptions may not have cut the stones for the pyrmaind. one guy instead has some evidence that they may actually be the worlds oldest form of poured concete.

Osiris~ the name of my oldest son~ was the God of the underworld. In Egyptian Mythology, he was said to teach the Egyptians to be civilized. He taught them to cultivate crops.

Isis~ the name of my first daughter~ is the sister/wife of Osiris. She is linked to fertility. Now when Osiris was killed and dismembered by his brother Set, she gathered all the parts and magically put him back together!

Akahanaten~ was the first Egyptian to be Monolithic. He wanted Egyptians to stop worshiping several Gods and worship the Aten- or God of the Sun Disk. He even changed the capital city to Amarna. When he was overthrow, the city was destroyed and most evidence of Akahaneten was erased. He also married one of the most famous women in Egyprian history~ Neferiti.

Tutenkahamun~ to some the most famous of Egyptian Pharaoh's was actually born Tutankahaten, after the God of the Sun Disk. Some believehe was the son of Akahanaten and Nefertiti and when they were overthrown, Tut was just a small boy. Advisors close to him felt changing his name would win over the people if he disassociated himself from them. Thus Aten to Amun!
