What was your first real job and how much did you make?

My first job was writing ad copy for a department store. 1974, and I was rolling in the dough at $2.75 an hour.

That was with my degree in Journalism

I wonder how that translates with inflation

1974 was about the same time I got started, too....lol.

My first job was working at a nursing home. it was a work study program. I made about $2.50 an hour. this was in 1977.

My first real job was as a cashier in a discount department store. I made $1.35 an hour to start.

I worked as a file clerk in a doctor's office and made $1.50/hour.

My very first job was a "runner" whats now called; running errands for others, and I got a dime a run....that was in 1965 and I'd run everywhere delivering messages, money, food, drinks etc......it was fun for me since I liked to run everywhere anyway...I always stopped when I got a dollar becuase that was enough for me to buy a coke, ice-cream bar, and tons of candy. :0)

I waited tables at a truckstop and made $2.90 an hour plus tips.

It sounds like we all are kind of old.....lol....and started out about the same place. Who would have imagined back in the early 70's where we would be now with our computers, cell phones and Ipods :)

Outside of my family's resturant...I worked at Circuit City. I started at $8 an hour I think. I had soooo much fun there!

my first job outside of babysitting was as the front counter and phone girl at Godfather's Pizza in Marion Ohio and I made $5.50 an hour (back in 1990 that was pretty good for the time! (minimum wage was still $4.25)

I loved it too because even though I was a nerd at my own school all the cute guys from other schools came in to get food and liked me. I even ended up going to my prom with the captain of the football team, from a neighboring school though but he was still HOT! All the critical kids at my school didn't understand how I was dating someone so "hot". They thought of me as a smart girl band geek and not someone cool to hang out with. My school wasn't all bad though. Even though the "popular" kids didn't hang out with me I HAD and EXCELLENT Group of friends, we had a lot of fun together and I am still friends with a lot of them to this day! The popular kids were actually jealous of us becuase our parents trusted us and let us have coed sleepover parties. The gang of us (about 8-12 kids boys and girls mixed) would always every friday go rent a bunch of silly bmovies, pick up pizza pop and snacks then sack out in sleeping bags in someones living room watching the movies, snacking, joking around and having fun. Sometimes the parties lasted all weekend. WE never gave our parents a reason not to trust us and our parents had the peace of mind of knowing where we were so it was win win. I had a great child hood!

That sounds like you had some good times Kimber. There is no way my parents would have let me any where near somewhere that boys were spending the night.

My most fun job when I was in high school was working at Dairy Queen. We lived in a small town and it was one of those places that just about everyone came by to hang out.
