Blue Heron
Here are some photos taken at the Marsh Walk at Hunting Beach State Park here in Myrtle Beach. We love going here. Thursday we decided to take the Marsh Walk. It was kind of interesting, I think it would be better when the tide was higher. The ground was muddy and there wasn't much wild life to see. We did get to see a blue heron and a few white Egrets. We went to the nature study center also. I hope you enjoy the photos.

This was taken from the road inside the park, heading for the parking area.

Walking on the board walk over the oyster reefs.
Most of what we saw was the oyster reefs.

Prints in the mud. Must have been a pretty big bird.

I wonder what creature made these?

Lots of mud and oysters.

I have no idea what those round things are. No, not pearls for sure.

A Pelican dropped in for a snack. It was nice to see something different.

The Pelican took off after he had his fill of oysters and mud.

These are diving ducks, they have a name that starts with a C, but I can't find it anywhere on line. They dive down in the water and can stay down a really long time to catch fish. You never know where they are going to come up at. They are fun to watch diving in the water.

The big building on the left may be the Renaissance Tower at the Myrtle Beach Resort. We can see this building from so many places we have traveled to down in Myrtle Beach.
At this point of our journey my batterys were running low, so I switched to my other camera and I will post Part 2 tomorrow. I've learned to carry two cameras and two video cameras at all times. Now if I can just get DH to remember to take one of each, we won't miss a thing.

You know there are like 10 geocaches in that park. I'm too cheap to pay to geocache. So I have not gotten them yet, lol.
And the footprints look a little like raccoon tracks. But, I'm not sure.
Great photo essay!
Marianne - I pinged you regarding the park.
Rick, you are correct. I couldn't remember the name of the ducks. Cormorants is right. Thanks so much. We see these a lot.
P.S. Thanks for taking the time to comment on my article about deer in our neighborhood.

Great shots. In 3rd grade, my son was studying marshland and his school trip was to a marsh in Toms River, NJ. It looked similar to this except no oysters. We saw lots of wildlife - since it was NJ there weren't any herons but we did see egrets. I love them. They are so pretty.
Risa, thanks for all the information. I was wondering what all those round things were.
Spartan, thanks so much for the feature in your great group.
Victoria DH was afraid I was going to drop my glasses or my camera in the muck! I can't imagine having to jump in there to retrieve something. Thanks goodness Parker didn't go any further, it looks like quicksand down there.
Toni, Curt and Vickie, thanks so much.
Elaine you picked a perfect spot to stay.
Thanks for sharing with us.

Thanks for commenting on my photo essay. I was smiling the whole time I wrote it, thinking back on that wonderful day and looking at the photos again.
I have so much to learn about all the new things I am finding here in SC.
Thank you for sharing it with us,Nana. :-)
