Winter Ice on Lakes, Rivers, Ponds: A Thing of the Past?

Planningto ice skate on a local lake or river this winter? You may need tothink twice, say scientists J. Magnuson, O. Jensen and B. Benson of theUniversity of Wisconsin at Madison. Their research is funded by theNational Science Foundation (NSF). Data came from newspaper archives,transportation ledgers and religious observances. From NSF News.

I blogged this and have quite a few responses from someone who confuses weather with climate. If anyone can explain it better than I did, please jump in.

Interesting article James. Really make you think. On average, I would say that the researchers are right. Then again, if you look at it in a myopic fashion, then the results are meaningless. And this is where the nay sayers are regarding global warming.

Patrick, yes, that is why I believe that we need to make good arguments for conservation, waste minimization, and protection of the environment (etc.) that hold true no matter what anyone thinks about global warming.
