In the United States, anyone can grow up to be President--even the son and the grandson of a man who did business with the Nazis during WWII--and who planned to overthrow the government in a coup in 1933, which has been called "the biggest peacetime threat to American democracy."
Yes, George W. Bush is the grandson of Prescott Bush, a very shady character to say the least. Here's a little history...
In 1933, Prescott Bush, along with a group of other wealthy families (owners of corporations such as Heinz, Birds Eye, Goodtea and Maxwell House) believed that the United States should adopt the policies of Hitler and Mussolini to beat the great depression. To that end, they planned a coup to topple Franklin Delano Rooselvelt from office and to take over the country. There is a documentary which tells the story of this attempted coup. It is available on the BBC web site:

The program also mentions Prescott Bush's directorship of the Hamburg-America Line, a company that was investigated for Nazi propaganda activities. Although this plan was foiled, Prescott Bush would go on to help the Nazis in a different way.
Six days after the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, President Roosevelt signed the "Trading With the Enemies Act" after it became public that there were companies doing business with the declared enemy of the United States. About ten months later, the U.S. ordered seizure of the Union Banking Corporation for doing business with the Germans. Prescott Bush was a director and Prescott's father-in-law, George Herbert Walker, was the President. The assets of the company were held by the U.S. until the end of the war, at which time they were returned. When the company was dissolved, Prescott Bush was reimbursed $1,500,000 which was then used to fund the Bush family investments in the oil industry.
So now you have a little history of the Bush family. I encourage you to do some research yourself as there are also ties to the bin Laden family.

It's shocking to learn that so many Americans seem uninformed about the Bush family history.
There is ample information available on Google and Wikipedia alone for inquiring minds to get a start in their research ... the problem is that far too many really do not give a damn ... and then there are the Right winger apologists that come on Gather to deny everything as just Left wing lies ... what a world ...
Please help spread this information, friends. Those who are awake and aware will help bring change and save our freedoms.
Carla, I love that quote. I just happened to look it up to see if Lewis said anything similar and I see there is some controversy over exactly what he said and where. At
http://gcaw.blogspot.com/2007/12/sinclair-lewis-quote.html
it gives evidence that that correct quote is "When fascism comes to the United States it will be wrapped in the American flag and will claim the name of 100-percent Americanism ... "
However, you point remains the same, I think.
Here's another one for you...
"The American fascist would prefer not to use violence. His method is to poison the channels of public information. With a fascist the problem is never how best to present the truth to the public but how best to use the news to deceive the public. . ."– Former Vice President Henry A. Wallace, the New York Times, April 9, 1944
In 1944, Henry A. Wallace, one of three Vice Presidents to serve under Franklin D. Roosevelt, assessed the threat of fascism in America and predicted that the time might come when the media was in collusion with the ruling power. "American fascism will not be really dangerous until there is a purposeful coalition among the cartelists, the deliberate poisoners of public information. . . ," he wrote.
Wallace ran for president in 1948 with the Progressive Party. From Wikipedia I quote, "His platform advocated an end to segregation, full voting rights for blacks, and universal government health insurance."
Is it your fault or mine that I got off topic?
Defeating Amerika, fascism and fundamentalism are the battles of this new century.
