I seem to run across things in the strangest places. I was just at the base clinic receiving my 10-year booster for tetanus and my annual flu shot. While waiting, I picked up a copy of an AARP magazine with Morgan Freeman on the cover. I've always been a fan of his movie work, so I was curious what this was about. I only made it about half-way through the article, but I made it far enough to catch a very good quote about racism.Â
You can read the article in its entirety here. http://www.aarpmagazine.org/entertainment/morgan_freeman_home_again.htmlÂ
When 60 Minutes reporter Mike Wallace asked him, "How can we get rid of racism?" in 2005, Freeman's reply was swift and blunt: "Stop talking about it. I'm going to stop calling you a white man, and I'm going to ask you to stop calling me a black man."
I think the quote says it all. I'm not going to attempt to expound on this any further than to say, well put Mr. Freeman!
