The Bible may indeed call it a sin. One has to realize that homosexuals cannot do anything about their sexuality any more than heterosexuals can do anything about theirs. The question isn't whether or not it is a sin. The question is whether or not homosexuals (who are probably not welcome in the Russian Orthodox churches) have a right to exist. As a believer in God, I say, of course homosexuals have a right to exist. Regardless of people's judgments, homosexuality is here to stay. No amount of moralizing will change that.

I can only add to Joe's words above that of all the disreputable persons in the Moscow Patriarchy this one is probably the most disreputable, being involved in a rather questionable and definitely non-Christian business (selling duty-free tobacco & alcohol). Not to mention the fact that almost all our church high hierarchs are the former KGB spies - or otherwise they would never be promoted to their present positions. So any attempts of amy one of them, especially this Kyrill, to play moralist could only make me laugh. I'm obliged to tell you all this as a Russian Orthodox in case some of my US contacts would take it all seriously. ;-)
