I just finished watching The Last Time I Saw Paris, a 1954 flick starring Elizabeth Taylor, Dona Reed, Eva Gabor, and Van Johnson.
As my friend has said, I guess this my be 50s/60s movies month for me. It's not as funny or dramatic or filled with flair as some of the other movies I've seen recently (Throgouhly Modern Millie, for instance). But it has its moments.
There's one line in the movie that stands out. This isn't going to be verbatim as it was toward the middle of the movie, but it was when they find out that they've struck oil, and (I forget the names of the characters) they begin to make some basic computations, "at two dollars a barrel, why, we're rich!" or something along those lines.
Two dollars per barrell, and they were rich. Imagine that! From just over 50 years ago, the price of oil has increased 5000%! Back in the 50s, I supposeit was more the individual who owned the oil, and the corporations who bought from the individual.
Today, it's now the corporations who own the oil, and the individual who purchases from the corporation.
Times sure have changed, haven't they?
