well, I was born before Ultrasounds were around, so the doctors told my parents they thought I was a boy because my mom got so big with me. Well, my parents only picked out BOY names, and when I came out as a girl....they had to scramble to pick a name. Jill was the first thing my dad came up with, and that became my name!

My name came from my great-grandmother Amy Emilia and my grandmother Velma Elizabeth, so I am Amy Elizabeth. As a kid I didn't like it so much because there were 7 Amys in my class and 3 Beths, so I couldn't really go by my middle name as a nickname.
My son's name, William Wesley, came from my ex-husband's birth middle names. Confused yet? His original name was Charles William Wesley and when he was adopted, his adoptive parents changed his name. Anyway, I liked the William Wesley part so we named our son that. Now that we are divorced, I claim that he is named after my dad (sort of).

I told him, "It's okay, Baby, to call me 'Yah'. Do not worry about pronouncing your 'N's'".
So the name 'Yah' stuck for the children. But ONLY children may call me 'Yah' or Auntie 'Yah'.
My father wanted to name me Desiree after an ex of his, my mother didn't like the meaning of that name so they decided on Shiela.
My oldest daughter was named for my Grandma who died two years before she was born, also a person who I thought was a friend as well. I pity my daughter cause the person she shares first names with turned out to be backstabbing to say the least.
My youngest daughter, her first name means Stalking Wolf and Viv will tell you that I love wolves. I prefer unusal names with meaning to them.

My mom heard the name on a Soap Opera, but does not remember which one. As I got older, I did some research and my name is of Aboriginal origin and it means boomerang. It is also listed as an Irish name as well and me chief.
I was named after a male french Pilot my dad was friends with in WWII his name was spelled Viviant and my middle name is the same as my moms Elaine. My mom picked my oldest sons name Steven Arthur and my ex named my second after himself Loren James but I named my youngest son I just like the name Marcusbut his mioddle name Emmett was after a friend who came home form the service and died in a car accident My hubby was named after his Grandpa William Savage P-----
Mine was something my mother was playing around with. And no it's not after Cher's daughter!! She has 2 Ts in her name, I only have one. And yes I have always hated it!!
I named my children for very specific reasons. We wanted to use Biblical names for the boys so we have Gideon, Gabriel and Micah. Gideon's name is particularly special because right after our first son died I was at a coffee shop and there was this beautiful little baby boy that reminded me so much of my son. Through tears I asked the mother what his name was and it was Gideon. I decided right then that if I was blessed with another boy, his name would be Gideon.
My daughter's name is one I have loved and wanted to use for a very long time. Loralei. Her middle name I loved and my husband hated but I brought him around when I told him it meant "her father's joy." So we have Loralei Abigail.

I haven't a clue why I was named what I was, but I always hated it, just seemed so blunt and insufficient, then the issue of my last name being somewhat unfortunate, equally short and blunt, with another meaning that didn't serve an adolescent, teasing was insufferable. Don't mind it now, made my peace, but is so much nicer those who call me Rose, I likes. My son was named Patrick because as special as he was he needed more than just a birthday, he had to have his own holiday, voila !! His middle name was after a wonderful boy I had known long ago.....
