Today I have been thinking about the people I've met online, some of which I've had the pleasure to meet in person. These were good people, and there are many more whom I would like to meet face-to-face should finances ever permit.
In discussing this with an online friend who is much more cautious than I, for good reasons from his past history, I realized that this is a very good concept to explore.
One of the people I met online came all the way from England to meet me. Well, no... not really. He was sent to Florida to do some work and made a side trip to meet my family and me. Later, via Yahoo Messenger (through which I met him) I introduced him to his current wife.
Yes. You read that right. I introduced two people in England, one of whom I've never had the privilige of meeting in person. They fell in love, got married... and along the way played a cute trick on me, which shall be the subject of another article.
Now it's your turn. Have you met people online and scheduled a meeting in-person later? More than once? Have your experiences been bad or good?
Have any of you met your spouse/SO online? How long did you chat online before meeting? Did you "spark" right away or did your affection grow slowly?
I bet we get some interesting responses today!

I haven't met anyone from gather, though there was a gathering not too far from me, in Boston, MA and I'm in CT, but I couldn't make it. Years ago, when I worked for aol (long time ago) as a conference room hostess, we had regular get-togethers in different states - people would organize them and whoever could show up, would.
My husband is from here, and I met him here, but I've met some nice and interesting people from online too.
Our son, Dave has also met a variety of people from chatting online, usually those who live in this area. He's also had good experiences. One thing to be careful of - if someone doesn't seem OK to you, go with your instincts and don't meet with them.

Krissy, that DOES sound exciting!
I've found several jobs, lovers, and good friends online..
and several con artists and one opportunist.
be careful.
That weekend we went bowling and to dinner. It was our first day together and we've only been apart for a couple business trips since that first date. We were engage after three weeks of dating, married six months after our first date and have been married seven years next month.

I met my hubby online too, but not from a dating site. We met at Writing.com.

Fortunately for those who get tired of my lengthy response.....this is one question I can't answer, as I have spoken to friends from on line via phone but have never met one yet......hummmmmm wonder why? :0)
I haven't met anyone from Gather, though. Mostly people from Neopets and some off of Yahoo that were in our area/state. We never can travel far to meet others, but if they are around here we would often meet up somewhere.
The last person I met that I knew online was a cozy mystery author from MA. :)
