In my blog called Chemistry for a Sustainable World, I have noted a number of recent stories in the press that may be of interest. Since I just joined Gather and have not yet made any connections, I thought I would send out this note. Thanks for your patience.
Recent stories include:
New advances in solar cells : Solar power now cheaper than coal, about nanoscience-based, inexpensive solar cells from Nanosolar.
An interview on Fresh Air (WHYY) with James Hansen, who is a top climate scientist at NASA and whose work has been censored by the Bush administration. Dr. Hansen is joined by Mark Bowen, who just wrote the book "Censoring Science: Inside the Political Attack on Dr. James Hansen and the Truth of Global Warming". Dr. Hansen is one of the climate scientists who was personally misreprsented/attacked in a novel published several years ago that puported to use scientific articles to show how misguided the environmental movement is.
The 10 Most Innovative Green Buildings- a story from The Guardian (UK) about green architecture and construction. In the comments, we learn from Liz about a new green remodeling project done, in the US, that received "first Platinum rating for a remodeled home from the U.S. Green BuildingCouncil's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program." The remodeling story highights waste involved in destroying suburban homes completely and rebuilding on the same spot and provides alternatives.
There are numerous other articles as well, including extensive analysis and my opinions on good and bad sides to biofuels.
I hope that these posts are of interest and I welcome any discussion.
Best wishes, Jim
p.s. The blog is not a money-making venture.
