Help using Borders gift card on Amazon.com

I recently built up enough points to finally score a $10 gift card to Borders! When you go to Borders.com, it's actually a part of Amazon.com. I found some books to order and added them to my shopping cart, but when I got to the part where you put in gift card numbers, mine did not work. I called the toll-free number on the back of the card and it does show a balance for $10, but for some reason I couldn't get it to work with the online order. Has anyone tried to use their card online? We have a Borders store here so I can go spend it locally, but it's so much easier to pick books online.

Any suggestions?

I gave my daughter a gc from Borders that I earned on Gather. She had some issues with it online as well. Amazon.com wanted a credit card number.

I got to the page where you put either your credit card number or a gift card number, so I put in the gift card first. I would have expected it to knock $10 off the balance owed. I didn't want to enter my credit card before knowing if the gift card would even work, you know?

Last time I used a gift card on a web site I needed to put my payment info in first (credit/debit card), then the gift card info. Have never had any problem with the gift card being deducted from total price doing it this way. You can always cancel your order before it is final even after you put in your cc info. Good luck!
