I took a walk along the Iowa River about 6 blocks from my home yesterday. The sun had just come out and the river was in various stages of thawing. Most of the scenery was beautiful, but I saw something that disturbed me a great deal. Not too far from the edge of the river there were 4 dead Canadian geese frozen into the water. They looked to have been there awhile and had been ravaged some by wildlife.

These geese are hardy and can survive the cold and snow so why were there 4 dead geese in a circle of about 15 feet? I wondered if someone had deliberately killed them. Could some unfeeling person with a pellet gun or BB gun have used these birds for target practice. I somehow don't think their death was accidental.
It was a sad sight to come upon in an otherwise peaceful setting.
For some reason Gather would not let me enlarge the last two photos.
