I hear people say it all the time and it drives me crazy because it simply isn't true. Yes, I am required by contract to be in a school building and teach about 185 days each year. However, that does not include the nights I go to basketball games, chaperone dances, or advise a club. It doesn't include classes I take or professional developments that I attend to make sure that I am the best teacher that I can be....
It also doesn't include the Sundays that I sit home all day writing IEPs or grading papers. It doesn't take into account the early mornings or late afternoons that I am at school helping students. So, before this little phrase slips out of your mouth again, consider all of these things and then consider this:
Any other full time job works out to be about as follows:
5 days a week X 50 weeks (2 weeks for vacation) = 250 days
In many jobs, when you leave, you are gone without responsibilities outside of the day.
Just a reminder that a GOOD teacher does NOT only work for 1/2 a year.....

It's crazy that people think teachers have it easy.
I imagine it's far worse when you have more than your own two kids.
Kudos to you for taking on the challenge of teaching. One of the hardest and most under rated jobs.
