Today's Boston Globe reports that the number of voters under 30 participating in the Iowa caucuses tripled since the 2004 election. The article further suggests that young voter participation was important for both victors in Thursday's contest.
Could this be a harbinger of things to come? Are young voters participating at a level that candidates will need to focus more on their views and interests? What might be done to further encourage young voters to participate?

I think that my doing more contacting
them by text messages and things online
will be the way to reach them.
But I do have hope for this new generation coming up. Hopefully apathy is dead. People are starting to understand what we get when we don't pay attention - George Bush!
Now if I could just get them to vote for the right people, my evil plans would fall into place:)

So, if you are interested from a youth's perspective check it out.
Let's hope, too, that the candidates are getting folks revved up. This is the first year in a long time that I have felt positive that we may get some change in the business-as-usual world of politics...or am I just a dreamer?
Christine--I do think this election seems wide open and that would seem to open up more possibilities.
