nervous about dinner... lol

ok, so my parents hated the fact that i was marrying my husband.. and they hated the fact that i was pregnant before doing so.. now, things have settled down, my dad apologized for some mean things he said, my mom seems to really like my husband, and they both love their granddaughter (first grandchild..lol) we had my family over for thanksgiving dinner/christmas presents about 3 wks ago. today i had this crazy idea to invite my parents out to supper with us! i have no idea why i want to do it, and now i'm nervous. i think the nervousness is just because when i was growing up, mom and dad would only take out one or two kids if those kids were in trouble. either way, i'm sure it will be an enjoyable evening, i'm just gonna be nervous for the next hour! lol

Don't be nervous. If things don't go well than you know not to do it again. Think on the positive side, this could a time where your family can get to know your hubby a little better and vise versa.

You know what is great about doing this? You are making "going out" a positive experience, instead of something that has to do with being in trouble.

Oh, relax - it will be fun. You'll probably find out they are as nervous as you, trying to figure out why you invited them! If all else fails - they are your parents - just tell them you're nervous, but that you wanted to enjoy their company this evening. It will be disarming.

I can relate, but i can't imagine how much more intense it would be AFTER getting married. It's hard enough with just a boyfriend. Good luck, and let us know how it turns out.

Since your parents want nothing more than your happiness, things should be fine. They love you and want the best for you just as you do for your daughter. Speaking as a daughter, mother, grandmother and mother-in-law, I believe we redefine our roles in our families after marriages, births and deaths. You are doing just fine.

Think of it this way; you are the one making the positive first (second, actually) step to reconcile with them. They should be grateful to you. If not, you can take comfort in the fact that you did what was right, and reached out. You are making the effort, and that makes you the WINNER, no matter how the dinner will turn out!

the dinner went great.. they even paid (which we weren't expecting, especially since it was a slightly pricey restaurant) and said it was my hubby's b-day gift. that was great because he really needed some new shirts, so we took the money we would have spent on dinner and bought him 3 shirts!
