It's tax season!! Are you a procrastinator?

Now's the time of year when we wait by our mailbox each day to get all of our W-2's, 1099's, and other tax documents in the mail so we can get our taxes done as soon as possible.

We usually have our taxes done by the first week of February and we get our refund direct deposited into our account. We usually get the money right around Valentine's Day.

We like to get our taxes done as soon as possible. I'm not the type to procrastinate when it comes to matters of money and the IRS.

So, are you one who gets your taxes done ASAP or are you in line at the post office on April 15th at 11:59pm?

I am disabled and dont make enough money to have to file. .......Norma
We usually get them in as soon as we can, because we get a big refund from tax credits, and what not.

This year, we have had job changes, bonuses to deal with, early closing of a retirement fund, etc, so we're not sure how long it will take to get everything.

We're going to have to "invest" in getting them done for us this year. Last year, I was able to do them online for free due to income. This year, we'll fork over an insane amount to H&R Block so that we can get them done correctly.

Not sure what our refund will be. On one hand, we only claim 1 person for the W2's, so we always over pay. And we'll get the child tax credit. Plus, we are way over taxed on our bonuses.

On the other hand, when we did the early closure of the 1 retirement fund (it was mandatory), we took a huge cut at the time, but we're supposed to lose a lot more in taxes on it.

So, we're -hoping- to get around the same amount we usualy do- in that it balances out. But, in reality, we could be getting less or more. I have no way of knownig. Blah!

My dream in life is to make enough money to get taxed. Then I will feel SO REAL !!!

No way am I procrastinating. Those taxes are going to pay for my trip home to see my mom.

I always do my own taxes too, it saves me so much money. I have mine direct deposited too and get mine around the middle of February. This year we will be waiting for more W-2's than normal since both of us had 2 different jobs this year. Hopefully everything will come out just right for us and we will get a good chunk back in taxes.

I've always done our own taxes, but the past two years, I've hired a CPA to do it for me. The reason is that I opened my own business, had all the business expenses and taxes to deal with, plus I had employees that I had payroll expenses and W-2's for etc. So, I'd rather pay the CPA to have the headaches rather than me.

My accountant is awesome! Even with all the business info plus all of our personal income, interest, student loan interest payments, deductions, etc....he had our taxes done in a day and a half!

All the tax papers are supposed to be here by the 31st of Jan., so I have a while to worry.

I am not a procrastinator, but my husband is. I use turbo-tax for home & business and as long as everyone leaves me alone, I can do it pretty easily(I used to do it by hand). When we first married, my husband demanded that we do it through H&R Block because he didn't trust my doing it--didn't know of anyone who did their own taxes so just knew I wasn't able to handle it....H&R Block messed them up and we ended up paying! Another thing that messed us up was that my husband, after we married, took another deduction off his taxes for me--not talking to me or thinking that since I worked, I prolly already took myself! Luckily, I've always under-counted and that didn't hurt us as bad as it could...of course he had called his old tax person and they told him to do it without either one of them thinking about my working!

I just organized all the paperwork yesterday and now I'm waiting for the forms that are coming in. I will get them done as soon as possible.

I want them done RIGHT away. I just can't get the paperwork fast enough.
I hate that we call January to April 15th "tax season." Ugh. Don't remind me!

We hire someone to do ours. Her turn-around time is very good, normally a couple of days. I would love to have our packet to her by mid-feb. We'll see how successful I am...

WTG Jill a lot of good responses. I agree that when I was in business, I hired a professional CPA. W-2,s , quartely reports on employees, State and Federal unemployment and end of the year taxes. A Pain. Especially when you are still out of the house working every day and still have to do your own payroll at the end of the week.

If I am getting a refund, I file early. If I owe, I file the week of the 15th. I don't think I have to file this year since I didn't make enough income "on paper" to have to.

We will have a lot of paperwork this tax time because of our adoption.
We usually just file the straight form without itemizing our deductions (next year we'll get to itemize) so we usually go to Jackson Hewitt just as soon as our W2's come in. We also usually do the refund anticipation loan and have our refund in 1-3 days. Although, Josh's income is usually too high to get us many credits such as the child tax credit and earned income, he always claims zero, so we've always looked out and gotten back some kind of refund, even if it's only $300, rather than paying in.

I don't waste one second in screwing the government out of every penny I can! I haven't filed taxes in 6 years...and don't intend to start now. They steal enough of our money...and it's about time we started fighting back and taking back what is rightfully ours. If they only knew how much I've kept from running a 'business' from home without reporting any of the income...LMAO!!! The government isn't as smart as they think...and if more citizens started doing this; we'd be much further ahead. They'll never get anything more from me than they deserve...and my income doesn't qualify.

We always have our taxes done by the 10th of February and we get our refund direct deposited into our account.

Normally we don't procrastinate. There are some tax documents that we don't get until the very last minute that they can, but after that we are pretty quick to get the taxes done...

I just did the Federal taxes this weekend (read procrastinator!) and I have to pay $22. Yikes. State taxes left. I hate tax season. Ugh. I always feel like the govt screws me royally.
