I am a Mariana from Louisiana but one of my Gather connections is a Marianne from Marietta. I know that there's a Marianne R. and a Marianne K. and of course, Marianne M. I have several Ann's who are connected to me. Also, I believe there are a couple of Mary's. There's a few Ana's and Anna's out there as well. My nosey rosey self wants to know, as always - Where did you get your name?
I was named after my Aunt Maria and two Aunt Mary's and my mother, Ana. In our family, we always named kids after relatives. I like that as it somehow gives our lives a bit of a connection to another time and era. Names are important. We seem to become our names and grow into them. The beauty of it all is that if you do not like your name, you can change it - even legally!
So, good Gather folk out there reading this. Are you a Mary or Ann or something like that? Do you have a good friend whose name is derived from Mary or Ann? I'm sure you are related to one or the other. Let us know your story! Thank you. Salud.

My mother once had this group of about 8 or 10 lady friends. In this group, there was a Mary Ann, a Mary Lou, a Mary Beth, a Mary Jane and a Mary Louise.
Fast forward to 2001. My daughter tracked down my birth family. It turns out my birth mom called me Baby MaryAnne and that is what she referred to me as her whole life. She had passed away before we found my siblings. So maybe my birth mom had passed on a request that I be named Mary. I will never know.
What a charming article! I was named Marianne because it was my mother's favorite name, from the time she was a little girl, dreaming about becoming a Mrs. and a momma. Her family was French and as far as I know, 'Marianne' is the French spelling. If someone calls on the phone and asks for Mary, I know it's someone who doesn't know me. I don't have a middle name ...
Sign me "Marianne from Minnesota!" Well, no, don't do that. It sounds gawky!
Regarding mama's outfit, well, I've always collected vintage clothing and I said mama try this on - of course she thought I was crazy but always went along with my craziness -hence mama in a painted 40's skirt and the top of a vintage bathing suit!!! She always dressed beautifully, may I add - thanks for stoppiing by! Salud.
I was named after my Father for my first name.
Is that enough names for one kid?
But I like YOU!
Her name, however, has a much nicer reason for being -- her first name is her mother's favorite month and her middle name is her mother's favorite flower. However, neither are spelled in the normal manner. I've always loved that.
My parents had an argument of sorts when I was born. My father wanted to name me "Louise" after his mother. My mother's mother wanted them to name me after her sister "Ella." My mother, the peace-keeper, found the solution in the baby names book: "Eloise."
Many of my baby pictures my grandmother took are labeled "Ella"...but eventually it was my older sisters who won the battle of my naming. They couldn't say "Eloise"...but they could get out "Ellie"!
Miz Ellie: I love how nicknames get started usually by little kids not knowing how to pronounce those long names! Salud.
No one calls me "Mary"....another part of that history....we go by the second or pet name, 'cept for my mom, since they combined it & spelled it differently.
Your mama looks so lovely and hip! I can tell where your good looks comes from.
Cheers,
Colonel Possum
Ron, I loved that song, naturally - it wasn't Mariana but close - lol.
Kim, loved your comment - you have a wonderful sense of humor, I'm laughing here.
Marywhatthehell - hummmm, let me think about that one...Was her name emblazoned in white paint inside the big tunnel??? Next to: The Big Banal Bitch of A Blonde? lol...remember that? Thanks Madame Donna! Salud.
i love your name... it is very pretty...
my real name is: denise marie theresa...
Blessings to you always...
Well.....I am Phyllis Ann and that was the name of my daddy's ex high school girlfriend. Growing up my grandmother always called me 'Millie Ann", - I have no idea how she got 'Millie' out of Phyllis! When my twin niece and nephew were learning to talk they called me "Billis"! BTW, I am a member of a group here on Gather where your name (first, middle) must have Ann, Anne and etc!!!!
My wife Inmaculada´s mother was a Maria (in Andalucía this is a really popular name, any moniker having to do with the Blessed Virgin Mary, actually, for Inmaculada actually refers to the BVM´s conception.
My younger sister Lori's middle name is 'Ann' from my mother Judith Ann.
I received my father's middle name 'Wayne'. I hated my middle name until just a few years ago. It always sounded so old fashioned to me.
'Mary' means 'bitter' or 'star of the sea' - I have several Mary's in my life and I always try to turn them into 'stars of the sea'.
Uh - well, since you're a paganized Christian - whatever that means, I guess you would say the name Mary means bitter...lol...however, Star of the Sea fits me quite well, thank you.
thanks for commenting Kevin - interesting comment and I do like your reviews on the subjects that interest me - mainly numbers and things that the West has come up with on its own - Salud.
(Just happened on this by accident...)
