In the 70's my husband CT and I were living in Tennessee. He was telling me tales of the Chapel Hill ghost and how he and his friends would go looking for the light on the railroad tracks for something to do while they were in high school. This kind of thing interested me and I thought we could go together and investigate, but it was more than an hour from our home and we did not have a car.
One afternoon our friend Thom and his wife and daughter came to visit in their brand new car. It was a compact and we all squished in and set off to see the Chapel Hill light.
Thom told stories about his and other friends experiences along the way.
When we got to Chapel Hill and found the tracks CT and Thom were discussing where the most sightings had occured. We decided to turn around. We drove over the tracks and turned around to head across them again when the little new car stalled out right on the tracks.
Thom tried starting the car and it wouldn't turn over.
Suddenly there was a really bright train light and a loud train horn from a short distance up the track. Thoms little girl started to scream. CT and I were in the back and, really, all I wanted to do was get the heck out of the car, but we had no rear doors.
Then, Thom got the car to start and we drove off the tracks just in time for the light to vanish completely.
There really was no train.
We had never heard that this had happened to anyone before, although it might have.
All five of us had this experience. We were totally freaked out. What do you think?
