Tax question (give your opinion)

I always look forward to tax time! I usually get back a lot of $$$, but I had a job change last year making half my old salary, so I don't expect to get back as much as I am used to, but I should get back enough to take care of some bills and maybe have enough left over to treat myself to a little something

yes, some years are better than others. I did have my daughter this past September, so I will get credit for her, which should replace my lower income. So it shouldn't be too bad.

If we have enough left over after getting the bills caught up, we're going to splurge for a new desktop computer

yeah a new desktop is what we need too. It won't hold windows on it, everytime we shut down or go into stand by the harddrive loses all the info on it.

Ours keeps shutting down 100 times a day! We had to buy an external hard drive to back up all our stuff! Thank goodness we were able to copy everything over onto my laptop before it starting being such a butt lol

I generally don't mind tax time since I usually get refunds. I usually take my stuff to HR Block because i have so many W-2 forms (I technically work 5 different places, even though I only make about enough money for it to be 1 part-time job)

I wouldn't say that I enjoy it. I like getting back the money that was MINE to begin with! My refunds are usually pretty small, I give my W2 info so only what is needed to cover my taxes is retained from my monthly paycheck. I also don't like the whole filing process, it should be much more straight forward and simple.

Those that are so happy about getting large refunds really should get the W2 info set up right so you don't have to wait for a refund to get your money. A tax refund is not a smart savings plan! The IRS doesn't pay you any interest on it!!!

Dread doing it but like the refund!

I Lothe TAX time----we have been audited for six years in a row now and haven't received a refund since 1988, yet we have never made enough for them to make us pay...yet we do. I have disputed and disputed til it actually made me sick, and several times they claimed they never got our returns, and so we had to refile, yet we send our state taxes in at the same time as our federal taxes yet the state has never had a problem and always gives us a refund...the most we've ever received is $200.00 from the state but with all the money they IRS OWES us you would think whatever back taxes they claimed from those two "lost" forms should have already paid it off but no they claimed last year we owed $1,200.00 and so we had to pay as usual......I don't get it and I can't figure it out but I can't go to one of those fancy tax lawyers becuase they won't take you unless you owe over $5,000.00. which we don't....I just don't get it.....and now that I'm on Medicare i wonder how they will screw up our taxes this year.......almost makes me wnat to cry. Must be nice to get huge refunds.....I've heard of people basing their whole lives on refunds because they get back YEARLY at least $6,000.00 HOW?! *sigh*

I neither look forward to it nor dread it. I just get it done and we normally break even. The most we ever got was $128.

I do not look forward to tax time. I am like you and am poor and in bad health. I usually get a refund. However, I live in Maryland where our Govenor has decided to put up every tax known to man. I am not sure how much I will get back this year.

My family looks forward to tax time because we get a tax refund. I do the taxes online and we get our refund quickly.

It differs from year to year, and I am not looking forward to this year's.

I am already pricing items online for when my refund comes and yes love that EIC. One year I tried to do the Advanced earned income credit, but my employer was confused by the forms and I decided to not do it.

I always do my own taxes and last year did it online for the first time free thru IRS sites and it was really fast coming back. One year I bought a minivan thru ebay motors with my refund.

Kitty, what an awful experience -- six years of audits would be soooo "taxing"!!!! Okay, I'm just trying to lighten your mood. After six years of this, the odds are that it will be smooth sailing from here, right?

Bonnie, I also filed free through the IRS site this past year. It made tax time so much easier, for sure! I'm still unsure as to wether or not I must send my W-2 forms in separately. Since I didn't owe anything (exactly the way it should be when figuring out withholdings), I'm not in any rush. But I should at least figure it out before Oct. 15, with is the tax extension deadline.
