Undecorating Party

When my daughters were young, everyone LOVED to decorate the tree and house, but no one loved to undecorate after Christmas. I know that undecorating can be a let down after Christmas, AND I got tired of doing it all myself, so one year I started having an UNDECORATING party. On January 1st we would turn on the Christmas music, set out special treats and sparkling cider, and my daughters and I would festively undecorate the house. It was so much nicer than just taking the decorations and tree down unceremoniously. It actually made it sort of fun, and the girls didn't mind helping quite as much. I guess it was sort of the "whistle while you work" theory in practice!

Unfortunately, now that my daughters are grown, I am back to undecorating by myself. I think this year  I'll throw an undecorating party for myself!

We always loved the undecorating party. I miss it every year. Although, not enough to come help you after doing my own house. ;)

Oh, come on Lacey...the undecorating party will be this Thursday after you pick up the boys...you are welcome to join me, but we will be having baby carrots instead of treats to celebrate our return to healthy eating.

What a wonderful idea! I have been sitting here looking at my tree and dreading taking it down. I don't have anyone to help me and it is so depressing to think of that spot empty.

That's a great idea! All i have to take down is my tree and a wreath. We don't do much decorating.

Great idea. This year I did not do the decorating thing. My son was in Japan for the hoiday. Nothing to take down this year !

I used to set the timer to get the kids to pick up their toys quickly. I wonder if that would work for us adults? I undecorated the tree yesterday--sort of sad........

I countered the "undecorating" issue when I decorated this year. I put up WAY less than usual, and no one really noticed or cared. It was a breeze taking down the outside decorations and the tree, and now i only have a few stray items left to put away. Happy New Year!

This sounds like a grand idea to me!

We won't be taking our Christmas tree down until spring. I am pretty much homebound in the winter and the lights perk me up. We just may have to decorate for Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Easter . . .

I have ten cats--decorating a tree would simple be self destructive.
Cleaning up after the party (or undecorating) is not most people's idea of fun. Have a great day and lots of fun at your own private undecorating party!

You GO, Girl! I'm one of those people who is MANIC about taking down the tree and decorations THE DAY AFTER Christmas!! I can't STAND to see Christmas decorations that people leave up after January 1st -- at the LATEST! -- it drives me UP A WALL! Tacky, people... tacky, tacky, TACKY!!!

Okay, I missed (or forgot!) that Lacey is YOUR daughter, Sherine. At least, I think that's what your comments to each other were just telling me. That's so cool! She's a lovely young woman. Good job, Mom! And by the way, I love your undecorating party idea. But I'd have to have money in the treat bowls over here, preferably $20's.

I had a touch of the flu Friday and laid down. When I got up my grandson had already taken everything down. Earlier than usual but I didn't mind a bit.

Because I was sick on Christmas and had to cancel my annual brunch, I'm making plans for a Jan-mas brunch, so all of the holiday decorations will stay up until at least after we celebrate at our brunch.

My husband and I already undecorated the house this weekend and rearranged the living room on Sunday. I had enough already. At least I got some major cleaning done in there too.

Tomorrow is the day for me to get it done. My grandsons spend the night with us tonight, so I want them to get to see the tree one more time. So today I'm working on taxes, and tomorrow I will tackle the tree...fun times for me!
