No Charges File in missing Illinois woman case

The woman who ran off with another man and casued a costly search ($250,000) will not be charged.  See attached article.

I'm curious to see what your thoughts are.   From what I've read she didn't intentially try to decieve anyone, she just wanted to get away from her husband. She did turn herself in when she heard of the search.  I still think should should have been fined or even required to do some community service to help pay back that money.

I disagree. She has every right to disappear if she wanted to. That's why this is a "free" country. You are allowed to disappear if that is what you choose to do. It's not her fault they decided to launch a full investigation with no evidence of foul play and spend all that money.

I'm with you on this Melissa, it's just too bad she didn't hear sooner so they could have called off the search.
If a person dissapears & a search is done - I do think that they should be required to pay back some of that money. Or do some community service.That cost us a lot of money just because she decided to dissapear for whatever reasons....

maybe I'm a little old or something,but I think that she should have told someone that she was leaving.I feel that she should have to pay for some of the cost of the seach that was to find her.It is a free country but this goes on to much.

Thanks for your feedback. I hope to get some more. One of the articles I read said her car was found by the river with the keys inside. This lead authorties to believe she had fallen in. I believe the search of the river was the most costly of the entire investigation.

I think she should be fined something. This reminds me of the runaway bride a few years ago.

It was unintentional and she turned herself in when she found out. I don't see where she broke the law and so I don't believe she should be held responsible.

Unless the husband was physical;ly abusing her and she was afraid for her life, I think she should have to pay some restitution.

If we can make her pay money for having to search for her and finding her not dead, can we sue our children for going missing too? 'Cause if that's the case, I know some parents who could retire on that money.
