Does anyone even READ the GROUP NAMES?

Or is it that in the rush for you to maximize your points you will spam to every group on your list?  I just went through another two articles on the Anything and Everything LONG ISLAND group.  They were nice articles but they had absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with Long Island.  Now I can see some people forgetting the description of the group:

This group is for anything and everything LONG ISLAND including news, thoughts, tourist reviews, etc. When I say anything and everything...I mean it! Please note this is moderated and I will not accept anything that does not have to do with Long Island or does not have Long Island as one of the tags.

But seriously if it says "Long Island" do you think this is a group for comments about a college in Chicago?  I was also looking at a group called Railroad Pictures and what do I see?  Or what don't I see?  Railroad pictures!  Lots of pictures of anything but Railroads.

Some groups might be confusing.  Take the Point Pushers Post Office.

A group for friends to publish works of any type except X rated, please. I do not delete comments. I do feature once a week to help my friends get points.

But in general don't post pictures of guys in a group about women, don't post about things in Maine in a group about New York.  At least look at the group name before you add it to your list of places to post in.  Let's try not to spam the groups on Gather.

I do read them. If it something that I have no interest in, I do not join.

I do read the group names when posting. I do wish there was a way to organize groups better, it would make it easier and maybe people wouldn't post to the wrong groups as much because it wouldn't take so long to go through the hundreds of groups to which we all belong.

It's all a points fest. People post in as many places as possible to get point. I'll admit I do it, too, but I don't post to EVERY group every time.

i always look at the name and check out what the group description is before i join

It's really less of a question of joining than of posting. For example suppose I take a photoraph of my mother. That's good for most photo groups, but while I might think her as saintly, religious photographs are right out. She's not going into the picturing trains either. Picturing women is questionable, but I only post ones that are flattering, so it's a judgement call. This is the sort of judgement I'm talking about.

i prefereably post to the anything goes type groups myself.those are alot better to me than to edit out certain groups to post in.i do read the group names,but i join depending on the description of the group rather than the name.

There's some people that I suspect post to every group they're in -- although, to be fair, the way group posting is now, it's possible to misclick and accidentally post to the wrong group, too. I generally give people the benefit of the doubt, but when they post eight or nine articles within an hour to the same wrong group...

I agree. I think Gather should put a group description hover tip over each group name, so before you click it, you can read the description if you need to.

I have to agree. There are so many "post anything" groups, that it shouldn't be that hard to get visibility and/or points, while at the same time honoring theme group content as much as possible.

I try to post my writing to the proper groups for the content but I have to admit I occasionally forget the exact description of the group. I moderate a group for insomniacs and used to only allow writing that was about insomnia or written in the wee hours of the night/morning but realized that it was too hard to do that. People just seem to assume that if they ARE insomniacs that all writing is appropriate for the group. That was not my original intent.

I really try hard to post where I'm supposed to. But sometimes I may miss click. It is so hard to go through that whole scrolly thing we have to do now. I remember a while back Gather promising to fix that and make it so you could categorize your groups or some such.
I am only in about 200 groups, but it takes me a good 10 minutes just to do the scroll, click, scroll, click, scroll thingy.
And some groups name, has nothing to do with what the group is about. So that makes it hard if you have to go back to the group and look at the description, I usually err on the side of being safe and if I can't remember what the group is about, I don't post to it.
I wish Gather would do some work on making the whole posting thing easier. It used to be easier and I posted more - but it is such a pain now - and being on dial up, makes it even slower.

If you are the moderator of the group for long island, your job is to act as the content cop and remove inappropriate content. Then people may remove themselves from your group.
