Okay.... so I didn't win the Code Orange College Contest...... well, hopefully we won't need to worry about how to pay for Josh's college education.
Josh is a 7th grader, actually only half way through his 7th grade year. He is in the Duke Talent Identification Program (Or Duke TIP) and as part of the program he is elligible to take the ACT or SAT exam. So we thought he should go with the ACT to start off with this year. This is just for practice really.
To our surprise the scores came in the mail the other day and he got a 26!!!!
For those of you unfamilar with the scoring, the perfect score is a 36.
The senior class of 2007 had an average score of 21.1, so a 26 is pretty darn good for a 7th grader! LOL!
I am really proud of him. He's not the average teen by any means. He loves to read, write stories and pays close attention to politics.
I did get a good chuckle from reading the scoring paper and it said that if your child has at least a 20 - 22 in the subject areas, they are most likely ready for college. *hehe*

The ACT is easier for many kids...especially those who can't say "no" to answering all the questions...even if they are not sure.
My middle daughter told me the ACT is easier than the SAT because you do it in segments, not hop around like the SAT.
Also, my daughters all rock the science and there is no science on the SAT.
The only test we took in school was an IQ test. It had no impact on weather you graduated or not. Some people just crumble under pressure and suceed when there is none. Those test now are driving the kids and teachers alike crazy.
I would also like to suggest that you son read my science fiction novel "Invisible Hand" which I have published here on Gather. There is one long chapter about a group of 13 year olds like him who do some remarkable things. I would especially like to hear what he thinks of that chapter.
The novel is also available at: http://www.unc.edu/~mason/hand.html without ads.
