U.S. and Iran to Announce Agreement?

There is information, unconfirmed at this point, that the United States is about to reach an agreement with Iran concerning Iraq, and perhaps already has.

The gist of the agreement, according to this information, is that Iran will cease to deliver munitions to Iraqis in return for the U.S. agreeing not to bomb or otherwise attack Iran.

There is supposedly also a tacit acknowledgement that Iran will let the U.S. have its troops remain indefinitely in Iraq but at the substantially lower number of 30,000 to 50,000. The withdrawal to that level will be completed, according to the information, by the end of 2008.

Again, this is unconfirmed, and it may not be finalized, but it is believed to be reliable.

Unconfirmed information, unnamed sources, rather unsettling.

Iran has already called off the Shia militias in Iraq, which has much to do with the relative peace, there. This is probably going to happen, since the intelligence agencies refused to back up Bush and Cheney lies, this time around, to justify war. We'll see what comes of it, and if they can pervert it for PNAC aims.

Our side of the bargain can be easily verified. It's hard to hide a bombing. But Iran's side ......not so much!

At this point, even a possible prospect of some possible negotiations possibly leading to a possible agreement to possibly not attack each other if possible is a glimmer of hope. You never know what the Bush junta will do in its waning days. I have come to expect the expected - criminality and violence and abuse of the constitution. But don't take that as saying I would prefer these things. Let Bush negotiate one solitary agreement which moves us one step farther away from global conflict. I would welcome that and more.

Felix, That is so right. Iran should not negotiate with us but I'm glad they are. Iran is not so dumb. They agree to not do something they are not doing so we will not do something we have threatened but not done.

Funny how this comes out just after Iran made a deal with Russia for a weapons system and signed a mutual defence treaty with Russia and China.

I can't believe that the U.S. would agree not to attack Iran while the Mullas develop a nuclear weapon. There has to be more to the story, if there is a story.

I've heard rumours to this effect a number of times over the last few months. While emotionally heartening, I doubt the words are worth the paper they're written on (sadly, by either side).

Wow, going against all the democrat arm chair warrior's advice that being a threat to Iran will produce no good results seems to have paid off. Threatening Iran doesn't seem to be such a bad idea like Clinton's diplomatic approach to North Korea. I( still wouldn't abandon the bomb Iran idea just yet........

Okay...There is a public confirmation of this information which has just come to my attention.....It is Strategic Forecasting, Inc., out of Austin, Texas....Otherwise known as STRATFOR, it provides intelligence on global business, economic, security and geopolitical affairs.

For a numbers and information cruncher like yourself, this source should be of interest to you, jJack, although their fee is a little high.

The information on this agreement is that it is more of a memorandum of understanding, but - with multiple confirmations - it seems there is something to this, and, if so, the bottom line is that an attack on Iran is not likely now..

Wonder what Iran really gets with this agreement? I'm happy to see their be an agreement - but I do believe it was in their best interests - or they wouldn't be initiating it.
