New Years and Drunk Driving

Seems it never fails people want to have a good time on New Years and they take it to far. One night of fun can end in a lifetime of pain and nightmares. It seems like it isn't the one who is drunk that gets hurt it always seems like its the one who is innocent and not drinking. Their life taken to soon or injured for life. Well I did some checking and found some things that will make you stop and think or be interesting to you on this topic.

Excellent and timely points! I just finished asking my 23-year old son and his girlfriend what their plans were for tomorrow night. They're going out, but staying at a friend's condo, where everywhere they go is within walking distance.

When I realize how responsible my adult children are - they always have a designated driver or take a cab - it makes me very proud of their generation. Let's hope that all of us can encourage those we love to think of the other person before we drive and drink.

For those of us who drink...................well, this is a MUST KNOW!!!!!!!!!! No alcohol will pass my lips if I have any keys nearby or any need to even go to the store for milk & bread. Promise!!!!!!!!

due to my headache and this small town and their policy on anykind of driving we will not head out this year.. in fact son is having 5 frineds spending a night out for non achol drinks with a WII and snacks,, 5 parent and us got it to go,, safe and fun for everyone,,,

Excellent and well-presented information indeed! I think it's disgusting how much the "mainstream" media promotes alcohol consumption, when this substance clearly damages your brain and liver. We had a relative who had to have his legs amputated due to alcoholism and diabetes, and it really leaves a bad legacy that unfortunately lasts for generations. Let's have a clean celebration -- I always seek out one of the more gourmet sparkling soft beverages like Martinelli's or Kristian Regale. People would also be surprised to know that aspartame breaks down into wood alcohol, so no wonder people also get addicted to some "diet" drinks. Thanks so much for posting this!

I don't drive and drink only at home. In France it was found out that the greatest accidents during a one year period, nd especially at New Year Eve happen to the 18 (legal driving and drinking age) and 25 year bracket. Since the beginning of December the French government has asked television celebrities to warn drivers, and especially the younger generation, about drinking and driving, and buying a packet of alcohol tests (4 in a packet for about one dollar) to keep in their car glove compartment for those evenings when they know, or someone else knows, they've had just a little too much. Safety comes in informing and being informed.

I drink very little and wouldn't drive if I'd had a sip. When one drinks, the first thing that goes is their judgment. I would never put myself in that position.

I don't think I have had a drink for maybe 20 yrs. Stopped drinking when I realized I never did like the taste of any form of alcohol or the drunk feeling and wine always gave me a headache.
My biggest concern are all the other crazy drivers that are drunk out on the roads. We have enough major accidents on any given regular day. I do have to go out to my mom's house today (about 30 miles away) but will be home before dark and will drive carefully.

Sadly I fear that those who NEED to see this and see the videos are the ones that won't.

I don't drink, neither does hubby and so we usually go to some friends house and play board games and watch movies.....but for some strange reason....this year her and I both have a weird feeling we should each stay home and not be on the roads....so we are.

Later Hubby and I will go get movies and snacks and hopefully not fall asleep so we can ring in the New Year 2008 properly with Good ol' Dick Clark....as I have a feeling he won't be doing too many more God Bless him........so we'll be home safe and sound and I wish everyone else a VERY SAFE AND HAPPY NEW YEARS!!!!!

Thanks! We're just staying home tonight. The thing that scares me around here is alot of people shoot off their guns in the air at midnight. There's no telling where the bullets end up. Last year one went through someones house on a childs bed. Thank God the girl wasn't sleeping in it at the time.

I'm surprised that all the alcohol companies are advertising again - and right before New Year's Eve. Grrr. Here in Cincinnati, there's such a problem with people driving over the yellow line and having head-on wrecks - even when they're sober - that there's no way in the world you would find me on the road tonight.

Michigan has relatively tough drunk driving laws, but they are not well enforced. It seems to me that every convicted drunk driver should be required to clean up accident scenes caused by other drunk drivers. Some drunk drivers are required to sit and listen to speeches by survivors whose loved ones were killed by drunk drivers.

This is all to true..New year's or should I say the holidays always bring out the stupid in people. Someone in my area was drinking and driving at a high rate of speed. Guess what happen? Their truck got wrapped around a palm tree. All died.
