I've heard it dozens of times.
"They'll get their just desserts."
Maybe they did. Maybe they didn't. I doubt I'll ever know. As a writer, however, I've always enjoyed the little play on words. In fact I look for ways to find my own. Seldom original, I find great pleasure in elaborating on the ones I like---typically finding the best on a bumper sticker, button or refrigerator magnet.
Perhaps they were stressed, and that's why they got their just desserts. Did you know that stressed spelled backwards is dessert? It's definitely a little known fact with almost no relevance to anything at all...except for a slight bit of fun at the hands of a writer.
Tomorrow night is New Year's Eve. I plan to serve a few different desserts. I hope no one becomes stressed by partaking, although the stress a few days later at the slight rise in number on the scales may cause a similar rise in blood pressure.
I plan to serve chocolate fondue. We'll dip fruit, pound cake, and nuts. Maybe the nuts will dip fruit and poundcake and the fruits will dip nuts....who knows? Everyone will indulge in the chocolate and become a tad bit sweeter. What a nice resolution that would be!
We'll have cake...and eat it, too. We'll bake cinnamon and brown sugar apples, and the aroma will fill the house like apple pie. Only the crust is missing. It will be lower crust, however, because we're not upper crust people.
I hope everyone eats before they come. There will be plenty of food to go around, but no dinner. There will be just desserts. And if they come expecting a meal, well then there still will be just desserts and they will ultimately get theirs.
