I've seen passion and excitement in previous elections, but they stayed home or at the sports bar or whatever & didn't vote. I guess they thought their passion and fervor were enough. I hope this time will be different.

And, since this article, Romney is ahead of Huckabee (albeit by a margin not statistically significant) 27-23%. As one who does this for a living, I want to go out on a limb and say that it will be very close! (How's that for no guts?? lol lol)

Yes, Greg - no guts. But, I don't blame you. The Republican slate of candidates doesn't look good at all. We'll have to wait and see. The only real poll that matters is the caucus and subsequent primaries.

I expect this will be one of those rare elections where no Republican gets a majority of the votes. I believe it's then decided by deal-making till someone gets a majority--does anyone know?

Among the Democrats I keep changing my mind--they have a number of strong candidates. I think Hillary Clinton would be less likely to fight corruption and so can't support her, but my guess is she'll take it all.

Is that the the Iowa cacus or Iowa circus? I don't know who will win there, but I'm pretty sure who will win the general election if Hillary gets the nod and it won't be Hillary and the Dems. Obama and Edwards on the other hand have a shot at going all the way. By the way I support my home state Senator Obama.

Giuliani has written off rural America. His campaining in Iowa has been virtually non-existant. Which is just fine by me.

Yeah I know. You are saying, "WHO???" Most people say they haven't even heard of him. But I believe he is the best canididate and I plan on voting based on my principles not on the canididate's "electibility."

It's laughable to see the local Democrats drooling all over Clinton and Obama when they come to town. They probably should move the Iowa caucus to a warmer month. Frozen drool is not a pretty sight.

Someone said that most of us Democrats have already made up our minds and we are a loyal bunch.

I think Iowa just likes to screw with poll takers IMHO.

No matter how muck peach loves Obama , he is not my first choice and she can quit pounding his name all over gather.

This is probably one of the more interesting elections I've observed in years. Not sure even who I'll vote for yet, but am intrigued by the political fever these last few days before Iowa and New Hampshire.

What concerns me most about Obama is not his inexperience - look at who's in the White House with only six years' experience as Texas' governor - Obama seems to be all about building a cult of personality.

Edwards offers substance and experience, grounded in reality. Edwards is the only reasonable choice for President in 2008!

I see I was already the first commentator here, but I'll reiterate, "how true." I also like being that young, I have to say.

Obama has taken the lead in the polls. It is significant because he has kept the lead for three days straight. We'll have to see. Whoever said that the Iowans like to play games with the pollster are right. My uncle and aunt are Iowans and they brag about playing with the pollsters.

James, Obama has accomplishments that surpass (head and shoulders above) any of the other candidates, Republican or Democrat. A law degree from Harvard. Voted president of the Harvard Law Review. He's scary-smart. A cult of personality, maybe. But also real substance.

I think Edwards is the man to watch on the democratic side. It is my understanding that Iowans get to pick a number 1 & number 2. If I follow this correctly...

We have people gungho for Obama, Hilary, and Edwards for Number 1 -- but interestingly, people who are gungho for Obama --> are interested in Edwards for #2, people for Clinton, are also interested in Edwards for #2.

To me, that's pretty interesting.

My parents have decided that if they support a democrat, it'll be Edwards. They believe and I agree that on the democratic side, he seems to understand the working & middle class plight a bit better. ($400 dollar haircut aside).

They don't like his stance on immigration, but other than that -- they consider him the people's candidate.

I also think Edwards has been fairly consistent. I think Biden has more experience, but oh well. I saw him on two youtube videos giving two different spins on one topic. He may have been in Washington a bit too long.

I'll take a chance and say that Edwards is going to be #1 or #2 in Iowa. Even though, I know what the polls say.

1-Edwards, 2-Clinton, 3-Obama

Republican Side: Whew! Even tougher.

I think Huckabee will squeek by and be #1 -- Romney @ #2. Unless illegal immigrant opponents help Huckabee's numbers dive any further down.

And, barring him doing something else -- odd (I going to show the commercial that I'm not going to show, so you can see what I don't want seen.)

Note: I had initially said the race was Hilary's to lose. She hasn't had a good week since her driver's license fiasco. She just fell apart.

Perhaps Obama does have all those acheivements you mention, but the public perception of his campaign leads one to see a cult of personality, first and foremost.

When I checked out his website, it was difficult to find a "positions" page. Of his positions, the one he takes on using coal-based technology as altermnatives fuels worries me most. No amount of cleaning can make coal a viable alternative.

Speaking of his website, you have to register first before being able to explore what he offers. That in itself is a major turn-off.

Yeah, I don't disagree with you there. I'd like to see more detailed positions from him as well.
