I got the idea for this article while following links yesterday... initially I was just looking for an article about how Silly String is helping the troops in Iraq. But I found so much more I felt it prudent to share it with you, and to implore all to follow the example of these kind and clever youngsters.
As often is the case, it all began with a school project and snowballed into a wonderful endeavor which will likely continue for a long time to come.
Their website is well-constructed and urges you with a small, polite popup to donate what is currently most urgently needed, in this case it says:
"Special Donation Request
We have a request for phone cards. The cost for the troops to call home is causing a financial burden on our troops. We would like to include if possible phone cards for each soldier or to at least some. Every donations counts. We are seeking in part or in full $1,000.00 to provide phone cards to them. We have spoken to several companies who can provide us a better rate if purchased in bulk."
This is the sort of thing that makes sense. The Bible says that a child shall lead them... and I believe this is because a child hasn't had their head filled with "do's and don'ts" "shoulds and shouldn'ts" as we adults have. They see clearly through all of the nonsense and jargon straight to the need. When asked why he set up this charity, Morgan's response was simple:
"I choose to do Morgan's Way 2007 when one of my friend's dads was deployed to Iraq. I wanted to find a way to help with anything that I can as he is risking his life for our safety."
He didn't just sit around and talk about it. He didn't try in vain to talk unwilling people into doing something. He got up, figured out what was needed, and began to marshall the resources to meet that need.
I'd keep my eye on this kid - he has the makings of a real mover and shaker.

Hi Ana! Thanks for stopping by!
There are some good kids here and there, maybe even several. I run into one once in a while. If you could get their minds off ipods, bean pods, text messaging, video games, etc you might could turn them into something useful. There is a bunch of kids, grandkids and great grandkids in our family and most or them fall into the category I mentioned. They are good kids, intelligent and could have something to offer but all they want to do is "hang" with their buddies. And "hang" in Walmart, of all places. How on earth does one get through to these kids?
Ahh, I'm getting lost in my thoughts again. I would like to communicate with some soldiers in Iraq but I am not aware of how to make contact with them. Can you help Lydia? I can't do anything financially or materially but I can offer words of encouragemet and praise.
What say you?
"Let's make 2008 the year we donate".
I hope our Gather friends check out the site.
Our troops need our support, with donations and with prayers. Let's pray they are always safe.
Thanks again,
Blessings,
