Can you Hear it?

Can you hear it?

It is off in the distance

soon to envelope us in something new.

 

It arrives in the cold dark

with promises of light.

Can you hear it calling with

promises of blessings and success.

 

The soft padding of snow doesn't cover the sound.

Nor does the joy of Christmas past.

Nor does the cries of the tired and weary.

 

Can you hear it?

It tells us of a new beginning

and taunts us to try something new.

It knows the human spirit and

offers to clear the way.

 

It is the sound of the New Year

where old habits are abandoned

and dreams are brought out to try.

 

It is something clean, whole, and new.

Something to be celebrated

and our lives begin again

through the procession of the ages.
