Leaving My Points Behind

At the begining of December I tried to reach the cash option and get 3,000 points in one month... and let me tell you.. I failed with flying colors!  I only got about 1200 points, no wear near close to the 3,000 thats needed.  I took a break from gather, thinking that the points don't add up fast enough, So, I was gunna just delete my stuff and go on.  I'm back.  I couldn't just leave gather.  I've realized that its not about the points anymore, I really like having everyone to talk to, and for advice, and all the fun stuff that gather has to offer.  I'm not all about the points anymore, yeah, they are great and I love racking them up, but it wont be my primary reason for being here on gather.  I like the people that I talk to through here....  so, thats that!

I'm glad you decided to stay. I know I'll never get the cash option (it took me almost 6 months just to get 3,000 points) but I have a great time here and made a lot of new friends.

I got frustrated at first too and then I had the same revelation as you. I have met some WONDERFUL people on here. Some are great friends with me now. I am addicted and it's a great place to be.

i am glad that you like gather i do also and as for teh points they will add up fast lol i wish i could get the 3000 point thing lol but i just do not have the time lol three kids and a house lol keep it up you might on day lol

There are a lot of good things about Gather...the points are just a 'bonus' as a reward for your participation.

Right. Ignore the points. You can get a lot more money by investing the time in other pursuits. Besides there seem to be a lot of really nice people here and some really tallented writers. That last surprised me. I begin to suspect that all those striking writers have decided to keep their writing skills polished by submitting to Gather. :-)

Hang around and just concentrate on having fun and soon you will notice that while you are having fun the points add up faster. It's kind of one of those "a watched pot never boils" thing.

It is hard and can seem to be an uphill battle when you are trying to get to 3000. There was a point where I wasn't enjoying it anymore when I was trying to get there. Like you I paused and asked myself what I was really here for. It was for the community, not the boodle, so back I went. (Besides, there is always next month:)

I am back after a short hiatus because of the holidays. When I first joined Gather I was all about the points and I have had the wonderful pleasure of earning 2 Borders Gift cards. Now I am starting to focus on writing some good stuff, commenting on others stuff, and just connecting and learning and the points are just a nice bonus and if I get a lot I get a lot and if I don't, oh well

The points are just a bonus, its getting to read wonderful articles and see beautiful photography that makes Gather so special for me....and getting to know lots of new friends is the very best part! Glad you made that decision, Heather!
Yea I view the gift cards as a bonus to all the great stuff I get to read and see. I am glad you are staying with us.
