A few years ago when my father first became ill with Alzheimer's disease, I wouldn't say that I was close with my brothers and their wives. I mean don't get me wrong, we got along well and we did a few things together here and there, but for the most part, we lived our lives seeing each other at holidays or mom and dad's house by chance.
Well, since having to come together in support of our parents, you would be surprised how very close we have all become. We almost depend on each other to get through each week. Not to mention, sometimes it is easier to get together with each other than it is with people that run on different schedules and have different priorities.....
So, have you noticed that if you let it, illness in the family can bring everyone closer? I am so glad that it has even though I hate that it had to happen. I guess if nothing else good can come from it, this is it....

My mom and her sister were many years apart, birth wise, and seldom spoke until dealing with their dad's Alzheimer's. Now they have a standing phone call every Sunday and that is over ten years since we lost him. That is why I call it a gift.
